the channel i watched spongebob on (Super RTL) only played spongebob seasons 1 to 4
they went through the episodes chronologically, but once the episodes New Leaf/Once Bitten played, boom
the show began all over again
because of this, I never knew there were more episodes, and assumed the show had ended, I found out there were new episodes in late 2009

Didn't they air Spongebob after Season 4 on VIVA between Drawn Together and American Dad?
Also, this whole thing was pretty funny. They tried to kill Spongebob off on Super RTL with not giving them the stuff past season 4 to air it on thier own channel and using NEW EPISODES to drag in viewers, but they pretty much just shot themselves in the knee because Super RTL only aired the good episodes while Nickelodeon only aired the bad episodes. Even after they pulled the plug and only aired it on thier own channel they still ended up being incredibly weak on the TV market with Spongebob being forever tied mentally to Super RTL as a thing of the past.
