Injustice is a shitty fighting game that accidentally hired good writers for the comic adaptation.
It also doesn't take itself seriously and isn't worried about being the "official" version of the characters, so it just has fun with itself, and in turn makes it fun.

Its a fighting game so the main appeal isn't in its story. And despite that, Injustice's reputation as a fighter is dubious at best. Plus they established right away that this is an alternative universe with more heroic versions existing in another so people can better consider these Regime versions their own thing. With those asterisks out of the, casuals can eat up the edgy garbage from the comics and not feel like they are "not true to the characters".
