My take on it is he was conscious for most of the cybernetic implant processes. Gamora is dry, not a great actress. Nebula is much better in the second movie and I greatly prefer her over Gamora. Mantis is adorable! I thought she was great in -2.

I think the main worry with Lylla as far as the movie makers are concerned is it would seem too cartoonish for Rocket to have an otter girlfriend. Plus, Being Rocket Is Suffering. Can't give him a girlfriend to cheer him up.

Even in the original mini it was never spelled out whether the Loonies were from Earth, though the massive similarity of their minders to Earth animals makes it very likely. Back then it might have been set far in the future since there were no plans to use Rocket any more in the main comic setting, or it may have been set in a parallel dimension. Now of course so many authors have chimed in on Rocket's origin that it's a mess.

Most GotG porn is Rocket already thanks to the furries so it will do a lot for them to have Lylla.

Peter/Rocket is pretty popular because there simply aren't many people you can reasonably pair the rodent with and fans can point at Tsundere Rocket in -2 as "evidence" that he's got a crush on Peter. In practice we've only seen a few hours of the character's lives and we have no idea what his orientation, if any is. Rocket definitely doesn't have a girlfriend in the MCU or he wouldn't be such a tortured outcast. Groot/Rocket is the other popular pairing because who else are you going to pair him with?

Skotty Young's run is fun, if sadly truncated before he could tell the whole story he wanted to tell. Rocket's original 3-issue mini is a weird product of its time and has a bit of 70s drugginess to it but it interesting if you want to see how much far the character has changed since he was created. And of course there's Annihilation Conquest and the subsequent GOTG series, which most of /co/ holds up as the gold standard for GOTG comics.
