T'challa's father sold off some Vibranium to send many of Wakandas youths to western schools and then have them come home and share their knowledge so they can uplift the country.
a lot of the advanced tech is because they have a mountain of Vibranium to experiment with.

Their isolationist ways couldn't have helped either. I remember in one Black Panther issue, during WW2 Cap is chasing a Nazi and HAPPENS to run into the outskirts of Wakanda in pursuit.

The Panther at the time, T'Challa's father helps him, but makes him swear that he'll never reveal Wakanda to anyone. He would have taken him prisioner/killed him if he hadn't already heard of Cap, if I remember right.

So while Wakanda is super advanced because vibranium gave them a huge headstart, they're not benefiting from the rest of the world. All of their produce has to come from Wakanda. All of their production? Wakanda. All technology benefits have to come from Wakanda. No one is able to share advancements with them.

Gunpowder gets invented in China, and spreads given enough time. Wakanda, until relatively recently, would have never heard of it, or had to invent it all on their own. Same with any technology. They also have a limited population.

It's amazing they're as advanced as they are, when you consider they rely ONLY on Wakanda.

People don't seem to realize how much technological advancement comes not from the tech itself but from energy density. There was nothing special about the Wright Brothers' plane design, people had been mucking around with winged machines for centuries. All it took was hooking up the new internal combustion engine to the device and suddenly a couple of bicycle repairmen entered the history books. Do you think these 2 Ohioan boobs were smarter than Michelangelo?

We could have laser rifles, honest-to-goodness laser rifles, right now... if the batteries required to operate them didn't require a squad of jeeps to carry behind the soldier. Tony was able to weaponize stuff like repulsortech simply because he had small, mobile, dense energy source to power the tech.

Suit of armor? Same thing, the tech for the suit was already laying around, but nobody was going to build the suit when its power requirements were too bulky for the suit itself to carry around. The US military is testing *right now* exosuits but they're limited to specific tracks on navy carriers where large power cables follow the suits, otherwise there is no way to supply the suits enough power to function. Handy for loading missiles onto a plane but won't really work in the field.

Full cred for the arc reactor work but the rest is much less impressive than folks seem so realize.
