I can see why they made the series designs simpler if they wanted to provide more consistent action, but I'm kind of on the fence on which design I prefer.

Kid Goku and Gohan yeah, but considering the new direction they are taking the show I guess they wanted KO to have his own characterization rather than just being compared to Goku all the time. They already have a character that's borderline Namekian after all.

I'm pretty sure they changed the art style because it felt very Regular show-ish and they wanted something a little more unique.

But it kind of feels like it dipped from the Regular Show direction to a Steven Universe one with the new design. I prefer the original.
