Have any comic or cartoon writers made a character with a personality that was heavily derailed from their original intentions because of fan popularity?

COM Axel> KH2 Axel
Can't wait to play Axel in KH3
>>93105110
probably

This, holy shit. I liked him more when he was a charismatic, backstabbing son of a bitch rather than the kid-friendly version of a jilted gay lover.
To stay on topic though, Eddie Brock. Went from liking the Symbiote, to hating it and wanting nothing to do with it, to loving it again just because everyone liked him as Venom when they were kids.

the name's lea. got it memorized?
>>93105110
I'd say Harley Quinn
And just about any Marvel character who's movie version is popular, had their personality warped in comics to match the big screen version.
>>93106320
Sure thing, Axel.

I understood CoM Axel having Roxas as his private moral compass, but everything else about his development has been awful.
>>93106169
Agreed. Hes still got bits of it left though.
Just axel was lea without any actual kindness so all he had left was his sarcasm.
Pretty much ALL of the organization were goody goodies before they got corrupted. Even the blonde sadist.

>Even the blonde sadist.
I want to see human Larxene.
>tfw you never get burnt out on wait/hype and KH3 is taking so long you no longer give a damn
Let's see if the same goes for FF7

FF7 was released 20 years ago, mate.
>>93107321
I meant the remake

I like it when the creators acknowledge the massive popularity of a minor character, but instead of doing more with them, they joke about it by having them look like they're coming back but don't, or killing them off. Pic related is my favorite most recent example.

Even after all these years, I still unironically think the Organization XIII outfits are stylish af.

Truly, KH2 was when it all started to go wrong.
>>93105110
Gambit was originally supposed to be a traitor.
>>93106500
a good example
>>93106650
>pretty much all
Xehanort and Braig certainly weren't, we know almost nothing about the rest of the apprentices (only that Ienzo has sick bantz), Isa was alright and 358/2 Saix is a tragic character that's often overlooked, 9-12 we know literally nothing, and there's Sora
so 2 are questionable, 4 are in the gray (they DID fuck Ansem the Wise off to the Realm of Darkness), 2 we only met as kids, 4 are literal nobodies and 1 is our shonen protag

I preferred them when they weren't leather/latex, rip comfy wool coats
Gambit was one actually, was supposed to be the traitor, but due to fan popularity he wound up staying a roguish thief.

The first one had a decent story, and while the second one had a better story it also made significantly less sense. The creator throwing in plot twists for the sake of plot twists doesn't help.

>First thing he did upon reviving was shout out for Roxas.
I'm glad Roxas has such dedicated friends, considering how shit his life was. Although to be fair those friends may have made it worse.
Shit, I just want all three of them to be back together.

I just gave up on Square Enix releasing any game in a decent time frame.
I think I was in 6th grade when FFXV was announced and I was a sophomore in college when it finally released.
