If you want the short route, read Death of Optimus Prime followed by Robots in Disguise #1 or More than meets the eye #1. For the love of god stick to only one and complete it before reading the other one. Both have completely different tones and settings and reading both at the same time will ruin one or the other but I feel RiD in particular usually suffers the most because it's a political comic and moves at a slower pace than MTMTE.
I started with RiD first because I knew of the impending Dark Cybertron event which focused more on the RiD cast than it did the MTMTE one.

The long but more fulfilling route is just reading the entirety of IDW TF by following the reading guide that anon posted earlier. It also makes RiD a whole lot better because you actually know the context behind why certain characters behave the way they do and crap they allude to.

Well, what did he expect? People love Megatron in MTMTE/LL because he is awkwardly working to better himself and in a situation we never ever see Megatron in. Sweeping him under a giant rug and pushing Blueberry Rodimus to one side in favour of your new ocs (whom people dislike anyway as they fucked up the pacing/content of the last arc) is a terrible way to go about things.
Is he gonna rage just as hard when people don't buy the lug/anode 2 issue adventure? Can't wait for that.

They might leave on their own adventure later on, which I think would be for the best. He already fucked up by making them a key focus of an arc that should have had way WAY more focus on alternate characters we already know (like the fates of Starscream, the DJD, Bumblebee etc), and Megatron trying to balance his rage and fear and hate over functionism and his new pacifism.

But instead it felt like a lot of exposition crammed into a small space. In any case, would it not have made more sense for Megatron to do what alternate universe Rung did? That way he could have been "out" of the story and in a coma or something without dumping him permanently in fanfic land.

all we know about Velocity is this:

1.) She's a medic
2.) she's not the brightest bulb, she failed her medic exams a few times before finally getting it right
3.) she and Nautica are friends.
4.) she only exists for Nautica to talk to and be the medic when Ratchet and First Aid were away.

Yeah it's a shame he chose to focus on Anode and Lug over literally every other character.

Velocity, Roller, Fangry, Rapidfire and most of the mutineers i wish had even half of the focus Anode and Lug got.
