>Dur, why was this animated when they could've just used real people?
Gee, I don't know, genius. Why weren't The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Beavis and Butt-Head, and all those slice-of-life anime made with "real people"?
What should only be animated, fairy tales? Because those have also been done with "real people." In fact, Disney is remaking all their popular shit with live-actors and realistic CGI.

This actually has a completely logical reason for being animated though. I doubt live action could easily replicate Michael seeing everyone as the same person thing without it being a lot more expensive. Otherwise I agree with your assessment.
Mature animation that can compete for Best Picture alongside live-action films?
NEVAR, cartunes r fur kidz
This movie was so frustrating and unsatisfying in the end. It might've caused the desired effect in me.
Fun Fact: This logic nearly killed the Incredibles

Beauty and the Beast, Up, and Toy Story 3 were all nominated for Best Picture.

MATURE animation; those are all family films.
This movie was such pretentious garbage, and I realize it was mocking pretentiousness but that doesn't excuse it from being self-masturbatory as fuck

Uhuh.
Anomalisa lost Best Animated Picture to Inside Out.

Well...

It can, just not at the Oscars because they're plebs.

>self-masturbatory

Wasn't that just one 2 minute scene though? I'd imagine doing a whole movie like that would be a lot more difficult.
>>93077158
It would've lost to Pixar even if the fugly dinosaur movie got nominated instead of IO because the Academy doesn't give a shit about animation.

That's why they kept this movie out of the Best Animated Feature category but nominated a forgettable kiddy Disney flick about a dog instead.
