Because while they took the curves out of Snake Way, they didn't take out the rises and dips, meaning his base form speed (after adding the gravity formula, which is based on a feat of strength from the start of the Buu Saga) was slower than they claimed. As shown by characters like Babidi, ki and magic are two very different things. Ki is more of a life force that is within all things.

Here's the thing.

Carol is nowhere near 18's level until she becomes Binary, which she can really only get after absorbing energy The interesting thing is Binary is actually FASTER than 18, to what degree I can't say.
18 is one of the few DBZ characters to not really spam energy attacks. Plus she would likely be able to sense that Carol is absorbing her energy if she did use them and realize Carol is getting stronger because of it and stop using them.

Binary doesn't AFAIK last long and leaves Carol weaker then when she started.

We know in her debut 18 was capable of manhandling SSJ Vegeta who even in his own debut was able to fairly easily blow up planets and this is AFTER several Zenkai boosts and attaining the Super Saiyan form. I actually can see this going to #18 for a number of reasons.

1. Base Carol is way beneath #18 in terms of feats comparing 18 to Trunks to Freeza, she would have to go Binary to stand a chance.

2. 18 doesn't actually use that many energy attacks if you watch her fights with Vegeta, thus depriving Carol of the energy she'd need to go Binary.

3. Carol can't absorb kinetic energy, any energy attack she absorbs she still takes the force from, pic related. Thus while she could feasibly absorb a destructo disk it would still cut through her before she did.

4. Binary's best feat is destroying a planet which left her completely drained afterwards, and while she has a lot more combat experience than 18, 18 has beaten a guy who had both of those feats in spades (Vegeta).

5. 18 has an energy barrier like 17 that is only used in games, presumably of the same durability in which case she could probably outlast Binary until Binary's extremely strict time limit finally ran out.

I'll admit, I'm seeing a ton of flaws as I watch more of this, but smashing an amalgamation of all the different versions of your hero isn't very fair either. And you can make the argument that picking 52 makes the most sense because it's the current versions of the characters.

The problem is that in continuity post-crisis New Earth Superman is an amalgamation of different writer's takes. Some write him stronger (Morrison), some write him weaker (Byrne). But post-crisis Superman is still just one canon version of Superman and when you say "use both fighters at their strongest showings" he wins.

Of course comic characters win when you can use them at their strongest. You can just whip Superman Prime out or something else just as ridiculously powerful. I believe the rule is using both characters as they are "standard". No temporary powerups they got, no special equipment, just as they would be on your average day.

That being said, I do think Superman would beat Goku, I just think that specifying which version of a character you're talking about, especially with comic book characters, is important. The people at Screwattack tend to just mash everything together. Like with all those different versions of Godzilla.

That's the thing about using JLA characters in a Death Battle. If they really just want to kill you and not take you to jail there's several members that can "lol nope" your entire team.

MM on mindrape, Flash on speed buff/debuff and GL on general buff/debuff, Superman on main offense, and Batman on tactics is one hell of thing to overcome.
