Not enough characters, it was made to support a mobile game not a toy line necessarily. Although I have heard some plushies will be coming out soon.

the appeal to me, imo, would be the different "art style". What appealed me the most, was just the fact that it doesn't feel so flat.

Than theres just the fact, I like the story. They don't reveal things instantly, its actually pretty well thought out, but im only a couple episodes in. For starters, Hanazuki didn't even know her real name at first, but it was revealed in the same episode, or even her purpose really.

It just didn't seem as "toy-etic" to me as other Hasbro IP. Usually you have a ton of characters so that kids can collect them all or find a favorite. When I foudn out that there was an accompanying Mobile game that clicked much better for me. Remember the millions stuff like Clash of Clans makes, it would make sense to have the game be the primary product rather than the toys.
From your pic they seem to be putting a lot into the Hemkas.

Mostly, it's just cute. It's nice to just watch something sugary sweet now and then. It's also not too bad, either. It's written by the same guy behind The Buzz on Maggie and equines, and given its unique setting and strange logic, it pulls off some genuinely funny stuff. Not by any means the Second Coming, but it's at worst average.

Current merchandising direction does seem to be focused on the hemkas and various "treasures," but as the series goes on I'd imagine a lot more will be added (provided there's good reception to the merch). With more moonflowers, and their own respective counterparts to the hemkas, there's potential for various lines of merchandise and toys to be made.

Veering off a bit- I find it odd that Hasbro is banking so hard on this. They must have a ton of faith in Hanazuki's potential popularity, because they are going balls deep with production before even knowing if kids will give a solitary fuck about it.

For an entirely new IP, it does seem to be garnering some success on youtube (Though I still don't understand why most of the episodes seem to have a 50% like/dislike bar) but whether that moderate success can warrant the merchandise is another matter entirely. It'll be interesting to see what happens with this show, because I don't think there's ever been a product line started in this manner before.

Certainly wasn't what I was expecting out of this week's episode, but with what Hanazuki said at the end, and with those ultra spoilery scenes in that trailer for the last batch, I think I can figure out where they're probably going with the last 4 episodes of the season.

Kinda cool to have an episode pretty much entirely centered on not-Hanazuki, works better than I though it would. I really liked lavender's voice for some reason.
