The industry tried to stop "Family-Friendly" versions of movies being offered when it happened the last time in the early '00s. Dozens of movies edited and re-issued with (at the time) poor markings of such. Joise and the Pussy Cats and Idle Hands are just two such movies where often you will run across the edited copy more than the original cut.

Editing material like this leads to bigger leaps in censorship down the road. Given the current crop of SJWs in HS & College who demand safe spaces, trigger warnings, and trophys/no grades for all things they do... this is just another level of coddling the already too coddled.

A good example is the movie Back to the Future. A movie which already has a TV edit to cut out the few swear words in the movie was re-edited by TBS recently to remove the word "terrorist" from being seen or heard in the movie.
