How does /co/ feel about The Maxx?
I just got done watching the MTV series. I'll be honest, I've never read the comics, but after watching through it, I really WANT to. Loved it, really cool.
Never read or watched it. It looks intriguing but I have a backlog of stuff I want to get through that's already a mile long.

fuck backlogs they only make you feel miserable, just live in the moment

I have the whole series.
The last couple of issues are Fucking Crazy, the issue where Mr. Gone details his life up to that point is sad as hell, and I have no idea what the overall message that Sam Keith was trying to tell is.
Still, worth a read - about as much as Roarin' Rick's Rare Bit Fiends.

alright you convinced me
I'm gonna read it tonight
It's a pretty great series under the "Mindfuckery" category. Interesting characters, distinct artstyle, Confusing but entertaining story.
Probably one of the best things Sam has done, if for no other reason it's more coherent than most of his work. Still, I felt the plot fell apart hard about 2/3rds of the way through the comic. I don't think he really knew where he was going with it.
Animated series was great since it was basically the comic 1:1. There are some changes, and an ending gets forced in there, but it was the best animated adaptation of any comic I've seen until The Dark Knight Returns.

Sam's not good with messages. He tells a story, that's about it. Half the time no one really understands what the plot was except Sam. Just understand he has severe women issues and more of his work starts to make sense.

The Maxx may be the most stereotypically 90s thing I've ever read/watched.
It's fucking awesome.

>Just understand he has severe women issues
The fuck? Please explain.
>>93052598
I had a nice premise and enjoyed the interactions of everyone on it but nearing the end of the comics it simply became too much mental fuckery for me to enjoy

Not that anon, but all I know is that there's a lot to do with rape in the Maxx and, in real life, the author shacked up with a grown woman when he was 15 and they've been married ever since. May or may not be where the "issues" come from

I remember watching this as a kid and never knowing what the fuck was happening or what the plot was even about. I vividly remember the episode where the blond woman talks about how she found a dead rabbit as a kid and kept it in a box under her bed where she'd hear it scratching, though.
Also I own a Maxx action figure for some reason.

Yeah, my mom borrowed a VHS tape of The Maxx from a co-worker or me to watch when I was a kid, I had no idea what was going on, but I loved how it looked.
Now that I'm an adult, I can enjoy it much more now, loved it.
Gonna watch The Head next, which I've never seen before.
I fucking loved the cartoon and the first arc of the comic. I didn't like the direction the comic went in, I would have preferred for it to have ended like the cartoon did.

>Found a dead rabbit
That's not actually what happened. What actually happened was a whole lot darker.
>>93056448
Oh yeah, wasn't it hit by a car and still alive but horribly crippled and her father killed it or something?
>>93052598
I loved the cartoon back in the day. haven't read the whole comic.
I have a reprinted issue #1 signed by Sam Keith somewhere in my closet.

Mother. It's part of the reason she's so fucked up as an adult.
>>93053472
1-20 had will messner-loebs cowriting, helping with keeping the whole thing grounded. 21-35 was mostly kieth going solo on writing.
I love both parts, and other things kieth done on his own, but it's undeniable the later part is much, much weirder and absolutely loses its focus at the end.
>>93055666
it's worse than that. a lot of #26 is autobiography.

So he got with an older woman when he was a shota? Doesn't sound too bad.
