Why has Bolt been largely forgotten? I'd still argue that it was the true turning point for Disney and paved the way for their 3D CG hits down the road.

>>92992428
No idea, it was actually pretty cute from what I remember.
>>

>>
>>92992428
It wasn't forgotten because there was no scene where bolt gave mittens the knot
>>
>>92992536
This.
>>
>>92992428
Working in the home video industry, I can tell you it hasn't been forgotten. It's somewhere in the middle.

And yeah, it was the first clear example of Pixar's influence in Disney Animation after the merger. They tried to fix Meet the Robinsons midproduction, but it was too late for that one.
>>
>>92993033
A lot of people would argue that's a bad thing. Bolt was completely changed, as it was going to be American Dog under Disney and it was Chris Sanders' movie. John Lasseter pretty much changed the entire thing.

That still exists?

It's literally the Oliver and Company of the second Disney Renaissance. Both movies are about dog-cat friendships, both focus on the bond between a little girl and her pet, both canine leads are voiced by a famous singer.
A turning point yes and a sign of good things to come, but overshadowed in the public eye by what came immediately after it (a return to fairytale musicals).

>>92992428
>>92995170
Bolt's also a very understated movie in the sense that there's no bombastic villain or love story. In some senses it's one of the most down to earth entries in the Disney canon.
The moral of the story is 'you're not special, magic isn't real - and that's okay, life is worth living even without grandiose heroic adventures' and that's an incredibly rare thing for Disney.
>>
>>92992428
It was released in the same month as Twilight? And in the same year as The Dark Knight? I dunno I'm just trying to think of things happening around that time that the average person would have been talking about/obsessing over.
>>
>>92992428
Interesting that it was one of those few films that allowed the female character to get beat up and abused for half a movie. Dat cat hate.
>>
>>92992428
It's neither good or bad enough to be solidly memorable based on it's quality, and it doesn't have any particularly iconic scenes or characters.
If you asked people about it they'd probably recall it and say they remember it being pretty good, but it doesn't really have anything to bring it to the front of peoples minds.
>>
>>92995516
The road-trip montage was pretty close. It's what I think of when I think of this movie.

Now I wanna look up if there's actually any Bolt on Mitten's porn. I don't even wanna Jack off to it, I just wanna see if it exists.

Anyone got concept art of the original American Dog plot?

Fun fact: Chris Sanders was a contributor to Rowrbrazzle, an early furry fandom magazine.

>>92995726
Of course there is

I quite liked Bolt. Not enough to obsess over it though.

My brother and I were really into this movie around when it came out, probably watched it like 6 times over the course of a couple of weeks. I should watch it again.

Because it was just okay. It wasn't exactly good, but nor was it bad. There's nothing about it to remember.

>>92995170 is right in comparing it to Oliver and Company, but at least that had some memorable songs if nothing else.

I liked it a lot. But it was not a super movie worth obsessing over. Which is probably for the best. I could pick it up now a few years later and still enjoy it

Am I the only one who wishes we could have gotten a Bolt TV series but like, an actual Bolt the Superdog TV series full of over the top ridiculous action like in the movies opening?
>>
>>92999836
I actually would have preferred a nice simple story of Bolt, Mittens, and Rhino, just getting into day-to-day adventures and trying to get by as strays.
>>
>>92999901
They could easily have done both, half the episode is the gang in shenanigans intercut with zany action shots from that weeks showing of superdog Bolt.

To be honest there were Nick/Judy levels of almost romantic tension going on there. Give them a year or so and they'll be adopting stray kittens and puppies.

I don't think I would have liked American Dog. The dog knew he was an actor, but got "lost" and thought they were still filming him when he was really out in the country somewhere. The animals could talk to humans and wore clothes and shit.

It would have been a much different movie. I liked what we got.
>>
>>93002767
I know it's Chris Sanders but this is an extremely ugly artstyle. Would have looked Illumination-tier in CG.
>>
>>93001422
Is that a problem? It's a common trope because it works.

Has there ever been a duo made up of a male cat and a female dog, or something equivalent?
