Basically you inject a character into every plot and it only makes the reader sick of her. To put the icing on the cake you make her an unreasonable bitch who gets people killed.

She began as a D-list extra in the Captain Marvel mythos. Genis-Vell and Rick Jones was known more as Captain Marvel than her. A major turning point in the character's life was when Busiek put her on his Avengers and made her a drunken failure who got kicked off the team for being a drunken failure.

Bendis liked her for some reason and she started to get pushed a lot appearing in his Avengers, in Superhero Squad, in the Ultimate Alliance games, and its probably from these that people know her the most from.

Cue current Marvel where the company is hungry for lefty virtue signalling good boy points and badly wants a big, powerful, showy female to be their Wonder Woman equivalent that isn't a mutant or Susan Storm. Given her status as "the chick in the Marvel games that throws energy and is on the Avengers" Carol was a natural choice for a push.

So she started to be pushed as this big time hero-even being called the greatest and most popular in-universe hero in some books. This of course clashed with her previous characterization as a loser. She got a dyke cut to virtue signal to the lefty crowd and became the idol of their new hip young new reader introduction character Kamala Khan.

Then comes Civil War 2 where she's basically in Tony's position from Civil War 1 where she does an awful lot that should put her in jail for the rest of her life but is forgiven for plot reasons.

People hate her because Marvel keeps trying to push her and it doesn't work and they can't find a balance for the character's personality so she oscillates from perfect idol to dictator bitch to drunken loser.

She's Marvel's Roman Reigns basically.
