For example, it was mentioned by crewmembers that Malachite only being capable of speaking with Jasper and Lapis' voices was a physiological manifestation of how incompatible and harmful they were to each other.
Also note Sugilite's problem in her debut episode. Amethyst's insecurities manifested through Sugilite's recklessness and unwillingness to defuse, putting her and Garnet's individuality at risk.
The overall appearance of the fusion varies according to what the crew decides is the most interesting design for their intents and purposes.

The big one is weird to me because it doesn't possess any worthwhile traits aside from kinda floating

I enjoy the little fortune teller one because it plays on an already established concept/power and gives to a cute little gimmick. The 2 headed one I think is interesting at a visual level but there is nothing there personality wise that makes that attribute worthwhile. It's a cliche, sure, but the character would be much more interesting if they were played as complete polar opposites from each other. The 2 person fusion is bland in both regards and possesses no real trait that makes them stand out form the bunch either physically or personality wise

My biggest problem, however, is that Gems are not people. They aren't bred the same way people are. They are manufactured like machines, built from the get-go for a specific purpose to fit their society. The most common example of this is how Amethysts and Jaspers are built to be soldiers. So with that being said, why does only one of these new characters actually play a new twist on that concept? I think it would be interesting for, lets say, the one smaller fusion to be 2 gems that have completely different purposes so that once they fuse their abilities cancel each other out making them kinda useless overall.
