I just watched the first three episodes, and pretty much everybody is not only strange or dumb, but just generally immoral and unlikable. Even Dib really seems to care more about being right, acts completely crazy, and stroking his ego than actually protecting humanity. This. Gaz was such a boring character. I hate overpowered, mean girls because they're written by men who think they're being "progressive" by writing the most one-dimensional OP bullshit while giving actual personalities to the male leads.

Tak was fun. She was competent, but also crazy and deluded by hate. She was delusional, but still prone to the Irken wackiness that made her trip up and freak out like she did in the OP scene.

I'm fairly certain Jhonen himself admitted that Gaz was really boring in the show, and in the comics she's a bit more level. She's mostly a video games obsessed kid, not some weird supernatural force to be reckoned with.

Literally all we know from the original series is that Irkens have two sexes, that's it. How they used to reproduce or any other cultural norms present in their society is all fan-cannon.
As for Tak referring to the control brains as she, it could be simply Tak applying her own gender to a sexless being, or that the brain had a female sounding voice, (thereby making it female).
More than likely there is no cultural benefit to be one gender over the other in present Irken society, based upon their decently even splitting of roles to each as there were other female invaders as seen in Episode 1, such as invader Ten.

My longstanding headcanon is PAKs were originally designed for early Irken space exploration. Its primary function as a life support device allowed them to survive extended periods on otherwise inhospitable environments, while an uplink with the host's brain and nervous system was used to preserve their consciousness should something happen to their body. When the Irkens spread out and their interstellar empire took root, PAKs were becoming common and gradually began replacing many facets of their race's natural biology.
