Obviously he didn't love Anna and would have felt bogged down by having her as a wife. Having a kingdom wouldn't be very fun if you had to spend the rest of your life pretending to love someone you had no romantic interest in.

Loose strings. Hans would've dropped the ball with the whole "true love" plan at some point, and Arendelle certainly would've sided with Anna rather than Hans if any problems had arisen. Killing Anna not only would've assured that Hans had uncensored access to the throne, it would've prevented anyone in a position to kick him out or even argue with his policies.

Yes, he didn't need to monologue, but he would need some reason to explain to Anna why the kiss didn't work. Hell, if the kiss hadn't cured her, then Anna could've called off the wedding right there. It was far smarter for Hans to just claim Anna dead, rather than give her a chance to run off and crown some other doufus the king (which she would have) or get him kicked out of his position.

He never planned on killing Anna because she was his key to the throne, he only planned on killing Elsa because she was the current ruler and was, therefore, in the way of him getting what he wanted.

He abandoned Anna because he didn't need her anymore, didn't like her, and because she was dying anyway. Him making sure Anna knew the rest of her family was going to die with her was just him being a fucking dick.

He didn't kill Anna, Elsa did.

Anna turned to ice ass a result of Elsa's curse. Hans risked his life on a mission to save her (he nearly died against marshmallow) and was planning to go on another search & rescue mission till the nobility told him to leave the princess die in the wild and just claim the throne and Anna happened to return.

However, she returned dying; too weak to walk, hair white, so inhumanly cold it could be felt instantly through her winter clothes. She told Hans Elsa "struck her with her powers" and froze her heart, and without an act of true love she'd die very soon. This means there's no way to save her, as Hans didn't love her, Elsa who apparently cursed her to death didn't either, and he didn't know about Kristoff (and according to the crew his kiss wouldn't have worked anyway).

So, as far as Hans knew, Anna was gonna die and there was no way to save her, so he just stopped wasting time and went for Elsa and left her to finish dying on her own.

But he didn't really try to kill her, as the only cause for her poor health and eventual death was Elsa's curse. Nothing Hans could have done would have kept Anna alive.

Honestly sometimes I wonder if people pay any attention to the things they watch.

Remember that Anna was basically moments away from death when he left, bar any ridiculous circumstances (like a living snowman saving her) she'd turn into an ice statue and it'd be done.
