You think DC should re-invent The Question, where he is a complete total mystery to all, even himself, but his only driving force in life, is seeking answers to help others and reach the truth, no matter how ugly it may or may not be?
Just as mysteriously he arrives, he leaves in the same fashion.

>Just as mysteriously he arrives, he leaves in the same fashion.

So you want him to be the Phantom Stranger?
>>
>>92793484
Sure...
>>
I think The Question would make a great film, but honestly the idea of a film surrounding a DC property that isn't made by WB Animation just depresses me these days
>>
>>92793607
he should have long animation then
I tried watching Vixen (2017) and it sucked terribly
>>
I'd just like a good, dark, and not ridiculous detective/pulp series, and Q's always been perfect for it
>>
>>92793402
>where he is a complete total mystery to all, even himself

That's the shitty Nu52 version.
>>
>>92793402
they have retcon magic Question and restart his shit
>>
>>92793402
No, that's dumb. Give us Vic Sage.
>>
>>92793607
WB Animation hasn't made a good film in ages and their new art style and animation studio sucks massive amounts of dicks. A Question movie, animated or otherwise, could only be good IF modern day WB wasn't associated to it in any form, which sadly means that it would never be good.
>>
>>92793402
They need to either give us Vic Sage or Dead Vic Sage.
>>
>>92794734
>Gods and Monsters
>Justice League Dark

both were pretty good.
>>
>>92793402
>>92794582
Pretty much, yeah. I'm really perplexed as to why it makes sense to go that route with a character who's historically been a detective-type character, and a fairly standard human. Making him into what they did is just... tonally weird.
>>
>>92793402
people in this thread are complaining about him being linked to magic, I never read any of that stuff so have no clue about it. But wouldn't he work well in the Trenchcoat Brigade? Take the animated version and put him with the other crazies.
>>
I get why they abandoned the Pandora/Phantom Stranger/Question Trinity, since it was terrible, but I still think it's weird that their significance was never explained.

Did we ever even find out who nu52 Question was?

I think the utility belt, tactleneck sleuthy agent side of Question is less developed than the shirtless kung-fu philosopher or the trenchcoat-fedora noir detective aspects, but I think it works just as well. Honestly I'd like to see conspiracy Question implemented in the comics. It's never been really canon, but it's the best known characterization.

If anything, I'd like to see The Question be something of an Dirk Gently-style Hollistic Detective Agency, consisting of Vic, ReneƩ and Tot, with Huntress, Batwoman, Green Arrow and Black Canary all being guest stars somewhere down the line. I'd like to see them tackle some of the conspiracies and genuine secret societies that pull the strings in the DC Universe, Court of Owls, League of Assassins, Intergang, as well as dealing with loose ends of previous stories in different heroes books, so they're like the behind the scenes cleanup crew. Generally, they'd take the cases that are too weird for regular detectives, or that regular detectives doubt even exist.

Eventually I'd like an arc that's just set down the street from the final battle of some big DC summer event, with The Question solving a tangential case and their actions creating circumstances that, when look like coincidences or conveniences when you just read the big summer book.

I'd also like to see him take on Riddler again at some point. I can't believe it's taken this long.
>>
>>92795488
>Riddler
did that in O'neils run
>>
>>92795319
>Did we ever even find out who nu52 Question was?
Off the top of my head I thought it was Renee Montoya, please correct me if I'm wrong.
>>
>>92795571
Hence the "again
>>
>>92795571
And it was a cool issue, but it suffered for not having the series' regular artist and it portrayed Nygma in a jokey way.

Both Question and Riddler have other approaches than be taken than zen philosopher and jokey neurotic, and it'd be cool to have a rematch that changed it up a bit.

No
>>
>>92795679
Best guess is Cain. Unrepentant in his crimes and cursed with a fucked up face everyone is disgusted by. Plus since the Stranger is Judas biblical characters aren't off limits.
>>
I hope Geoff Johns dont shit on Vic Sage again in Doomsday Clock.
>>
>>92795679
>red hair
nu52 Question is Rorshach
>>
>>92798637
Thank god, that means we can kill him off.

And symbolically purge objectivism from the Question character forever.
>>
>>92795488
I like the idea of a book cleaning up loose ends. But it would hurt peoples feelings so it would never happen
>>
>>92795679
They had NO idea what to do with this.
>>
>>92795488
>More Vic and Helena

I'm sold.
>>
>>92795488

It hurts
>>
>>92794819
I kinda liked the Shamanist angle they had going at one point.
>>
>>92805320
>>92795488
If they went with a mixture of Zen, Urban Shamanism and Conspiracy nut it'd probably be something like a Hollistic, "everything is connected" approach like Dirk Gently.
>>
I want Ditko's objectivity Question back.
>>
>>92807860
Objectivism is the worst philosophy.
>>
Obviously the new question should be an alt right guy who fights globalists

>>92807885
t.commie

>>92808041
Dude, I know autism means you'll never feel love, but that's no reason to suck a wrinkly Russian lady's labia so you can pretend to be a big man.
>>
I've been rewatching JLU recently. Every scene with the Question is pure KINO.
>>
>>92793607
Their animation studio is hot garbage now as well.
>>
>>92807885
How is it the worst. Explain your reasoning behind your statement.
>>
>>92795679
This topped it for "We have no idea what we are doing" character revamps.
>>
>>92808274
Easily the best part of the series. Jeffrey Combs was a perfect casting choice.
>>
>>92808444
It doesn't believe in altruism or charity or humanity. It's a philosophy for antisocial edgelords written by a woman who was a complete hypocrite.

Snyder is also a massive objectivist, and his misunderstanding of the concept of altruism is what keeps him from being able to write superheroes, since he has no fucking idea why someone would do something nice without selfish, self-absorbed intent.

Complete garbage, fuck Rand.
>>
>>92808548
Then why is Ditko so revered by comic book fans?
>>
>>92808548
>It doesn't believe in altruism or charity or humanity

Okay, you are to be disregarded due to talking out of your ass.

If you'd read some of her works, you'd see that her definition of altruism differs from what you've just said. Everything is alright as long as its done voluntarily. She only had an affair with Branden when her husband and Branden's wife agreed to it happening, otherwise she wouldn't have done it. Just like charity, she's fine with it when its given voluntarily. Regarding altruism, she defined it as man being unable to live for his own sake but for the sake of the common good. But, once again, she's fine with charity, kindness to others, and respect for each other's rights.

Look this up, it's all online. Look for the Ayn Rand Institute and their article on altruism. The Ayn Rand Institute, by the way, was formed with Leonard Peikoff, Rand's chosen heir, and is different from the Atlas Society since it adheres to orthodox Objectivism. Kinda like how Gramsci and Fannon are neo-Marxists but Lenin and Mao are orthodox Marxists who simply expounded on the theories set by Marx. So the Ayn Rand Institute has the intellectual authority to say things as Rand herself might have made it.

tl;dr Rand's definition of altruism=/=standard definition of altruism and she was fine with charity

Honestly, my problem with giving Vic too much magic stuff, even if it's magical realism, is that it risks de-humanizing him for me. And what made him so intensely compelling was how downright human, fallible and troubled he was. If his troubles become magical troubles, if he finds himself fighting supernatural beings or using weird wizardry too often, even if it's all an allegory for human problems it still won't ring half as true as the shit he went through in O'Neil's run. To me that's the kind of stuff that really sunk Renee's tenure as Question: she couldn't take two steps without drowning in Crime Religion bullshit or having to deal with Vandal Savage as the literal antichrist.
Mind you, even with all that in mind I'd totally read a new Question run if it was well-written. But it'd still be a hell of an uphill battle.

>>92808963
Have you SEEN his art? Holy shit, man. I think objectivism is bullshit and I'm STILL chomping at the bit to get that awesome complete Mr. A volume.
>>
>>92808963
Because he's fucking great, what the hell are you talking about?

Even if I think his philosophy is ridiculous, you can't discredit the man for being talented.

>>92808978
I'll admit I haven't read everything Rand ever wrote, and the article on altruism sounds interesting and I may give it a read, but I generally judge philosophies based on how I see them implimented in the lifestyles of their adherents. We've all met communists who are wishy-washy stoner idiots with no real grasp of economics, but where I've met Marxists and socialists with half a clue, I've yet to meet a Randian who was anything but a self-entitled libertarian edgelord. Does that make me ignorant?
>>
>>92809283
>Does that make me ignorant?

Yes, you attacked the basis of objectivism itself without knowing what objectivism or Rand herself said.

Honestly, I've always found it to be that rare kind of work that just gets better and better the more you read and think about it. Especially once you start going through O'Neil's own recommended reading list.
