is it time to retire /hyw/? can't even stay alive overnight

Would it be better for anons to just post their webcomics on separate threads? That way they can get a bigger audience, aren't held back by, let's admit it, the kind of closed off circle these threads have become where there's not really any good criticism, just backpats, and there'd be more content on /co/.

Think about it, there's audience ready multiple anons who have posted their comics and have audience ready decent following by staying away from these threads. Isn't it time you did the same?

I make edgy and dark stuff usually so this cute webcomic is a change of pace for me. Also, even if my life depended on it I couldn't draw. So that's why the comic looks like it does.

Hey guys, how's it going? Just recovered from a nasty cold. I actually felt the fever kicking in two weeks ago when drawing page three of pic related, wen to bed and was out cold for six days. Missed an entire week of college and only got around to continue drawing today. Colds suck but they're especially annoying in summer.

Anyways, what do you think of the paneling? I think I might have gone too far in a few places on page five but hopefully I can make it work.

The problem is that the most active webcomic guys on /co/ don't even use the threads anymore. Between the webcomic land discord and the /hyw/ discord (is the Skype even still around?) everyone actually making content fractured off into their own mini-communities entirely separate from /co/. All the updates, progress, and feedback happens on one of two discord servers now.

Since Sixty-Four is on what seems like an indefinite hiatus, I need new things to read.

I like finding smaller, newer webcomics so there's a good chance that I'll at least try reading everything posted itt.

I think more artists need to post their crap in independent threads. I genuinely think a lot of you guys have something good going, but most of /co/ keeps out of these threads.

That being said, it's good that /co/ has a place for amateur webcomic artists to congregate. Well, My comic's up here, it's the ten part shit in black and white. It's about a metal band that struggle in france, where the metal scene is dead.

And you're right, our comics are great, thanks to the fact that we got mangas earlier than the US, and we've got a nice indie scene going.

For french comic recommendations, i'd suggest you Lastman, which was adapted as an animated series, drawn by the guys who made the Kassos, Boulet's "Notes", which is a webcomic adapted into many books about a professional comic artist doing stuff. It's like "so you're a cartoonist", but actually VERY good.

Need help here, I think one i start revising i could figure a solution to this conundrum. Greyscale comic remember, Plus I'm trying not to use different font for speech because then i'd have to keep track of whats this and that (A font for Telepathy, Whispering and etc... No Thanks).

I'm still figuring out what font to use officially overall, but for scenes that have yelling or other exaggerated speech i plan on drawing that font for extra UMPH!.

For the colored pages in my comic it'll be easier.
It's hard to explain, but once the first chapter is out you'll see what i mean and i can then improve on anything.

But I'll definitely consider it. Things might change later on.

I've done it, multiple times. But there's one thing that limits everything. All my characters can't fit in the same world in the same time. Some characters are not destined to meet, and I need to make sure that the chronological order of the story doesn't fuck up. But there's also a big amount of characters that do get to meet for at least one scene and I'm finding a way to fit it in. There are things that have to happen and my character needs to have learned specific things by the time she encounters another kety character that's what's tricky. And I don't want to avoid writing the prequel since altho, the character I'm writing for is competely abscent. It explains the world she lives in, and I find it necessary to be told.

Start by writing a script, think of interesting scenarios and try to tell a situation-specific joke. It's just a really easy way to start, it provides a small hook that would also introduce your characters.
You have to like it, if you don't like it then you'll end up scrapping it or wishing you had done it better.
The motivation behind keeping my comic going is wondering if I would be able to intrigue people with my story. Will my audience know who my villain is? Will they find the relationship between my characters sweet? When my characters reveal information, will it come to a shock to them?

i had a comic do particularly well on r/comics yesterday; it got like 6.4k views and 950+ updoots which is much more interaction than my average comic

this whole stint got me 1 twitter follower which is better than nothing i guess. website had like 38 unique visitors and garnered a total of around 500 pageviews.

i think if you make colorful/popular-aesthetic gag strips with your social media clearly watermarked you'd probably get better mileage than I did.

I've been "too busy" to work on materializing it because of work and stuff, but I resolved to make time and just work on getting it drawn and I'm finding time I didn't know I had.

Made some edits to a few characters and lumped together all the character models I've finished into one image. I've been trying hard to keep up a wide variety with them and I think it especially shows when they're all together like this.

I really need to make more aliens though. I'm have a bad habit of making a lot of major characters human by default.

I've decided to drop my whole concept for a new one completely and make the comic something more episodic than a linear timeline so I can shitft through style, genre and topics without destroying the initial idea. Sum up your story in a sentence.
Then a paragraph.
Then a page.
Then do the same thing
Have 3 editors. The first two know everything, and should be really solid on plot development. The third one should be blind to the plot, but still be smart. It's very easy to get railroaded into a plot, and you start making stupid decisions when you're swimming with plot and characters. Having someone to cut through the chaff can be incredibly valuable.

Also, read full scripts from actual comics. See how the writer talks to the artists, and directs them to do things. Everyone is different, so everyone writes a little differently. The opening of Watchmen's script:

its hard to tell without dialog but they didn't go back in time, theres no time travel in this comic, copper is showing fairune what happened the day fairunes mother died.

fairune thought a bunch of giant sky monsters killed her mother, but in reality it was just a bunch of hundred hander kids just playing around.

notice in the bottom panel the kid with the cut off arm, they all have 100 arms, hence their names, but they all bleed different colors based on the highlights and hair color they were born with.

hundred handers arent immortal they age half as slow as a human, so if a human can live to be about a hundred and something on average a hundered hander can live to be about 200 and something.

hundred handers are real, go real greek/roman mythology where zues went into another realm to get help from the hundred handers to defeat his father and the other titans, so there for, hundred handers are more powerful than both gods and titans!

although they are the same size as a human there arms can grow out into a hundred giant black arms able to lift mountains and throw them far distances, which is how they helped zues defeat his father chronus.

in my mythos, fire demons are the most powerful supernatural beings! DEMON FUSE coming soon! in DEMON FUSE the supernatural hierarchy will be better explained!
