Sheep need it because they are prey who need to keep an eye out for predators. Wolves, on the other hand, don't need to see detailed figures in their peripherals, just movement.

Sheep are also not without their flaws, either. A sheep has a wider field of vision, but their distance vision is absolute garbage compared to that of a wolf, so often they won't realize a threat is coming from far off until it's far too late to prepare for it.
