Is it weird this is something I've been thinking about, actually? Like, how countries, as they develop, also develop unique animation, as well as how Africa seems like a place where something like this seems both unprecedented and murky in chances at success.

I'm not too well learned in the specifics of animation history regarding many nations, but knowing that China, Russia, and so much of Europe both eastern and western has had unique animation come out of it, to speak nothing of American animation history and development, makes me really interested to see how this goes.

>>92756651
Also interesting.
>>
>>92756398

Uh... I don't know what to say... Good luck Nigeria.
>>
>>92756651

This is basically it. A lot of Koreans are trying to grow their own industry beyond just doing shit contract work and make their own stuff, so basically every developing or second rate nation is trying to fill that niche. Russia is trying to train it's prisoners to do the work, Jamaica is trying to use it as a vent to alleviate it's social issues, and so on and so forth. From a larger administrative perspective Animation is usually seen as a kind of release valve where if you have a lot of people it's a career track to be made available.
>>
I think they underestimate what a specialized skill-set is required. It takes more than being willing to work for ungodly amounts of time for very little money. Korean animation might be cheap and very assembly line, but they have to have a huge amount of technical training in a very demanding field. And even then they end up fucking up the result because animation is fucking hard. So imagine what happens when you got someone who DOESN'T have a network of old pros and facilities.
>>
>>92756398
As someone who's lived in that country and gotten malaria there 4 times, they won't do jack shit. The project will most likely fail and not be successful.
>>

Well that's more believable than the idea the Kenyans are about to start making and marketing African animations.

Maybe the real question isn't just whether the Nigerians'll be able to animate anything, but if they'll also be able to create artists.

They have all the knowledge of the rest of the world at their disposal. They just need to teach it to enough people. Of course you'll also get people who have skills in art to do it so there's no reason they would be unable to make good quality stuff. Animation students of only a few years in America get jobs doing big shows. It's all about drive, talent, and teaching.

It's not just about artists existing, but also about teaching people art skills and competency en-masse. A big population doesn't necessarily mean lots of good teachers or the knowledge base to do stuff, but I cannot speak too much on it, methinks.

Exactly. And they have one. And they can surely find the second. But those things just don't pop out of the ground, they come from a robust institution not unlike a guild. They would have to import them from Korea and while not impossible by any means, it wouldn't be cheap and would be extremely high-risk.

And don't tell me the internet can teach them production animation. While a single talented individual might be able to learn that way, there's no way you're going to make an industry like that; you'll just end up with DeviantArt.

I hope it works out. Last time I was approached by a Nigerian publishing house I was told to bail the fuck out. He was basically giving me the keys to the empire (full collaboration, part of the core team, hand in internel affairs) even though he never met me before that day.
I was told by an aunt who worked for nigerians to basically not sign anything, and bail, because she made that mistake with a nigerian company and worked her to exhaustion and depression. Besides their legal proceedings are so shady they might actually steal money from me or make me participate in shady stuff.

And we're africans too, so we know how shady other africans can be, and we stay away as much as possible.

After that i discovered they were tracing marvel designs and comic panels for their own purposes.

Dear Sir:

I have been requested by the Nigerian National Animation Company to contact you for assistance in resolving a matter. The Nigerian National Animation Company has recently concluded a large number of contracts for western animation in the sub-Canadian region. The contracts have immediately produced moneys equaling US$40,000,000. The Nigerian National Animation Company is desirous of waifu production in other parts of the world, however, because of certain regulations of the Nigerian Government, it is unable to move these funds to another region.

You assistance is requested as a non-Nigerian citizen to assist the Nigerian National Animation Company, and also the Central Bank of Nigeria, in moving these funds out of Nigeria. If the funds can be transferred to your name, in your United States account, then you can forward the funds as directed by the Nigerian National Animation Company. In exchange for your accommodating services, the Nigerian National Animation Company would agree to make another season of your favorite catoon/draw lewds of you waifu/make your ship canon.

However, to be a legitimate transferee of these moneys according to Nigerian law, you must presently be a depositor of at least US$100,000 in a Patreon account which is regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

If it will be possible for you to assist us, we would be most grateful. We suggest that you meet with us in person in Lagos, and that during your visit I introduce you to the representatives of the Nigerian National Animation Company, as well as with certain officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Please call me at your earliest convenience at 23-683-8906. Time is of the essence in this matter; very quickly the Nigerian Government will realize that the Central Bank is maintaining this amount on deposit, and attempt to levy certain depository taxes on it.

Yours truly,
Animator Mikaeli Johanna Kricfalusissis

Let's hope that whatever that comes out from these studios will be far more impressive than Nollywood film ones. (Nollywood movies, from what I gather in my YouTube research, seem to be really boring romances with flat TV production values that makes Lifetime TV movies look like Breaking Bad.)

>>92757679
It would be hilarious if the author unconsciously writes bits of his own Ghanaian lifestyle into the story, for all the Japanese-y feel the work wants to achieve.

>>92759380
That would actually be a great improvement, honestly. One thing I can think of immediately: copy in some visual shorthands from other animations (e.g dramatic angles or transitions) would kinda make this output more...coherent. It'll still be cheesy, but at least it'll be more enjoyable.

ABSO LUTELY untrue. Even though Canadian animation is generally flash trash there's a hell of a lot worse. A HELL of a lot worse.
>>
>>92759615
I mean a pretty large amount of black man/white woman porn pretty heavily plays up the race fetish aspect, which like any fetish can be pretty unappealing to someone who doesn't share it.
And since it's so common people tend to assume that anything involving black man/white woman contains that race aspect.
I mean I'm sure there are lots of people who do actually hate it for /pol/ reasons but I don't think its what drives most of the dislike for it.

I don't even understand the desire to make a knock off of anime-style stuff. It's always jarring to join art communities online and discover that everyone draws manga styled stuff with absolutely no originality.
And it's either technically shitty, or technically good but soulless because it's just a good copy of something you've seen thousands of times.
