Legitimately no, I don't read reviews at all really. If I'm going to watch something I'll just watch it. $4 isn't going to kill me either way if it turns out to be bad.

I also don't go opening weekend either though.

This, it will still be considered a failure, but it will probably draw in lots of money. Ghostbusters 2016 had a decently large first weekend profit before dropping by like 60%, so worst case it would be like that.

People on /co/ seem to have this problem with being able to tell how a bad movie is different from a flop or a good movie from a successful movie.

Suicide Squad was a successful but bad movie, much like Batman vs Superman because both made a lot of money despite not being very good. Wonder Woman looks like it is going to be a bad movie as well but is likely to be successful, but maybe not as successful as BvS or Suicide Squad.

That being said though, this entire thread is bait. Anyone believing the reviews by women talking about how "inspiring" it is are just setting themselves up for disappointment.

How does that shit even work? Why even let reviewers see it if they can't review it? And doesn't that just automatically raise a huge flag saying "our movie is shit and we don't want word of mouth to destroy our sales"? Has a GOOD movie ever had a review embargo?
>>
>>92743985
It is when you take into consideration the "DC film fatigue" that is in the back of people's minds. Also the fact that WW has had a lot of back and forth PR saying that people hate the movie, it won't do well, people are being sexist about it, and etc.

They are very similar in many ways. The main difference is scale, I expect WW to make more money than Ghostbusters 2016, but I also expect it to be considered a failure because it doesn't break the 1B mark or etc.
>>
>>92744221
She doesn't claim it was good.
>>
>>92744185

>>
>>92744323
Its a two-fold system. It makes sure that reviewers only release their information at the best moment to build hype for a property. You talk about a video game or movie too long before it comes out and people will be sick of hearing about it or have mentally moved on by the time it comes out.

It also helps hide bad products because there is less time for the terrible nature of the product to seep into people's awareness.
>>
>>92743844
I was talking more about the fandom in general I guess. This is going to end up worse than MoS or BvS because now in addition to MCU vs DCEU assholes there will be this third party of feminists and allies that have already developed an opinon about the movie based on shit like the reviews that are out now. And it's just one more can't/won't accept criticism because they're expectations were too high to begin with or they have some agenda beyond wanting an actual good movie of WW type of asshole shitting over everything and everyone that disagrees. And I'm sure I'm wrong in the since that of course those people exist without the reviews but I feel like this kind of promotion gives them fuel or a spark to start in the first place. As opposed to just allowing the positive and negative aspects to show through from the first place and maybe temper peoples expectations and attitudes towards it.

Cvil War was crazy. It had a presss sceening like one month before release and the critics were allowed to post their reactions right after. The review embargo was lifted around 2 weeks before any release, not counting red carpets. Maybe they tought people didn't give a shit about another hero vs hero flick after the BvS shitstorm
>>
>>92743766
if you don't like people talking about political agendas in movies then you deserve to be slapped.
>>
>>92744445
I feel you but at the same time it's very easy to avoid all of that in the long run. For example I missed literally all the Dark Knight Rises memes and shitposting because I didn't want to see it in theaters so I just hid every thread and avoided people talking about it on social media. Did the same with both GotGs too. It doesn't take much energy to just watch a movie on your own time without the assorted bullshit. Don't be a victim of hype.
>>
>>92744380
I saw the movie a couple of days ago.
SJW shit and triggered retards aside, it is a good movie. Gal Gadot looks young as fuck in it, what kind of Hollywood magic was that. The ice cream scene was cute, and the action scenes in context aren't as jarring as in the trailers.

I don't think it'll do enormous numbers but in my humble random dude opinion, around $600mil wouldn't be far-fetched.

>affected

>I was surprised/struck by how much I liked it

I genuinely think that's going to make the movie worse. Snyder can be total shit but at least he's somewhat consistent. I worry that if Whedon has a fucking quipgasm on the bits of the film he's in charge of the jarring shifts in tone are going to be like repeatedly running into a brick wall.

And this is to say nothing of the fact that WB is probably going to take both Snyder's shit and Whedon's shit and run it through an editing food processor like they did with Suicide Squad. I expect Justice League to be totally fucking awful, like on the level of Battlefield Earth.
>>
>>92744432
But then why not simply expose reviewers to the product at the best possible time? Why have this shitty "see it now, review it in a month" system?
>>
If Ghostbusters 2016 got good reviews, this is definetely getting good reviews.

Pre-release opinions

Pre-release opinions, especially when there's a fucking embargo out for reviews, are going to be shill talking points given to them by the studio. Do you seriously think a studio is going to put an embargo on a movie, then allow negative pre-release opinions from screenings that they control access too? Ghostbusters and Fant4stic got positive pre-release reactions too.

https://www.comicbookmovie.com/fantastic_four/twitter-reactions-from-early-fantastic-four-screening-major-a123570

Any positive pre-release reaction to a big movie with a ton of marketing behind it is nothing but shill bullshit and can be safely discarded. Once it comes out and people are free to see it and express their opinion honestly then you can accurately gauge reactions.

They fucking did it

Suicide Squad already experiemented with that by pandering to the social media generation who's too busy to read reviews let alone visit Rotten Tomatoes

But this new strategy is bulletproof.

I think Wonder Woman could be DC's Guardians of the Galaxy, in that if you go read a lot of interviews for famous actors in Marvel movies -- they literally always reference Guardains of the Galaxy in their decision to do a Marvel film (De Niro, Blanchett, Eijefor, etc.)

No offense to Aquaman -- it's looking great sure, but if you told me that same exact B-movie ass cast was for a Conan sequel I would believe you! Joe Mangienello? Amber Heard?
Patrick Wilson? No offense really but come on. The floodgates will open after this and once bigger stars get attached to projects they will be greenlit faster.

Let me explain how review embargoes work

No one cares about review embargoes until someone finds a reason to care

An Oscar-winning movie could have a day-1 embargo, and a movie shitted out as a tax write-off could release embargo a month in advance

Of course on /co/ and in the enthusiast media we care about something as meaningless eview embargoes for our little capeshit films and therefore endlessly project our biases onto them -- the same can be said about other normal standards of filmmaking for which
we overanalyze and (reshoots, rumors, production hassles, etc.)

I'm back. I'm not going to be reductive because it doesn't serve anyone or bring up any discussion.
It is hard to say anything about this movie because the DC movies have been so bad, and the Marvel circle jerk has gotten so bad that it reached public audiences. I saw with my family at a screening for military personnel and their families, and I heard a mix of the general audience loving it and others being mad it wasn't like a Marvel film.
Aside from the theater going experience being absolutely dreadful with a billion kids there, I have mixed feelings about the movie. I won't spoil anything without using spoiler tags if anyone wants to know any details, but there are things I liked and disliked.
Gal Gadot is still a weird choice as WW for me. I don't absolutely hate her and she has her moments. There is a lot of naivete that WW shows that I think Gadot does okay with, but I'm not going to call her actress of the year or anything. Her naivete and realization about WWI is a driving character arc, but I don't think it was concluded as well as it could have been.
Those guys with the squad along with WW and Steve needed more character development. They barely got any and it kinda was a let down to see a lot of missed opportunities with one in particular.
The thing apparently about "so many women kicking ass!" it was early in the movie and then it is mostly WW doing everything. So...I don't see that as any sort of thing to be super crazy about.
A thing about the villain is that it is also a very weird casting choice to me, and the fight ends in a way that seemed nearly anime-ish.
Overall action scenes were serviceable, with minimal shaky cam (at least for this day and age) but an overabundance of slow-mo.
Overall, I liked the movie. It ends on a more optimistic note than MoS or BvS ever did. But I'm also an anomaly, because I didn't absolutely hate Suicide Squad. I recognize it as not good, but I didn't despise it.
Ask away.

That's the thing, I don't think the movie is trying to pander to women, although I think women will like it because the Amazons are portrayed as kick ass in it. There an on the nose message about the world of men having light and dark, but it ends on an optimistic note. However, I feel like faggots that write the agenda pushing shit reviews are going to take the comments about men in the movie and skew it to be about "men" men instead of what the film is actually talking about which is humanity in general, seeing how one of the antagonists is a woman.

>Has a GOOD movie ever had a review embargo?

Basically all movies have review embargos, some just end sooner than others.

It usually is telling how quickly it ends: if the studio has confidence in the movie, they'll lift it sooner, to generate hype...but if the studio is nervous, they'll delay it until just before release, hoping audiences will already have bought their tickets or made plans before bad word starts to circulate.

In Snyder's universe, everything is Greek-centric. Zeus made humanity and the Amazons/Themyscira.

Yeah. That is in there. Hippolyta tells Diana a bedtime story where he makes humanity and then Ares manipulates them to fight amongst themselves. Then Zeus makes the Amazons to stop them and "guide" humanity, while the gods fight and die to Ares. In Zeus's dying breath he makes Themyscira for the Amazons and the "Godslayer" so that if Ares returns they can fight him.

Ending spoilers
At the end of the movie Ares is all like, "Zeus was stupid. Humans were always evil and wanted war, I'm just giving them suggestions. I never made them actually go through with any of it!" And he also reveals that Diana is the Godslayer and she is actually a god made by Zeus at the last minute to kill Ares.

I almost wish it was a horrible movie, so at least it'd be memorable.
>>
>>92753862
After watching the movie, I feel like it'll get co-opted by SJW culture, even though the movie's message isn't about how "women will save the world because they are better than men and empowerment and go vaginas and stuff."

I feel like there will be lines taken out of context of the movie to push some sort of shitty agenda, but the movie overall isn't really about that.

There are cool scenes with women early on and then it is the WW and Steve Trever show afterward. Then again, I know some fucking faggot is going to make some idiot thesis about how Steve was totally putting WW down because he tried to stop her from doing things! Despite her having no knowledge about the world at all and him trying to stop her from making a scene in the middle of downtown London.

>This has led to the promotion of identity politics, including what we call in the United States “affirmative action.” Demands are raised for quotas, the allocation of a certain percentage of positions for designated minorities, and even, in the most extreme cases, that minority and women students be taught only by professors of their own gender and race. Demands of this sort are aimed at securing a more satisfactory distribution of wealth among the most affluent layer in society. The pursuit of these demands by so-called left organizations has nothing whatsoever to do with the struggle of the working class. The role of the pseudo-left is not understood, and that is why so many were shocked after Syriza came to power in Greece and, almost immediately, began repudiating all its former demands and promises.
