Why would you retcon something like that?
The Guardian I can understand since they had written themselves into a corner with it, but making the parents younger was unnecessary. Just have them be old, worn by Aku's dominion, but with as much strength of spirit as they used to have.
Also they were meaningless in the end and where shown just as briefly as Demongo.
