I think this lends credence to the idea that it's mostly going to be flashbacks because otherwise they'd just do S3 all at once if it was only a continuation of S2.

Season 3 was initially announced for "Summer"
Today they announced that Season 3 will premiere with a TV Movie, essentially four half-hour episodes aired together, on July 15.
The rest of Season 3 will start airing in the Fall (I've heard September, but not from official sources).

what doesnt get shipping into this fucking days.... though to be honest this cartoons shows it thrives on it ...... and to be honest even as a grown ass male I kind of gotten into the hole shipping stuff too ever since Avatar back in the day.
But Yeah, Gravity Falls and this Show are one of the ones that are really good (imho) so far from Disney XD so far (not like I even watch the channel though) so I will suggest you give it a try

I mean there's more than a few cute girls in the main cast, but romance doesn't really become part of the story until toward the end of Season 2, and there's definitely more than that going on. Out of 40 episodes in the season there's maybe 4 or 5 where romantic drama is part of the plot, and it's almost always paired with other major story developments going on.

Season 2 ended on a serious cliffhanger, including with the romance elements, but the trailer for Season 3 that was released today looks fucking crazy. Romance is part of the show now, but it's definitely not the focus.
