Can someone tell me why we fully abandoned animatronics in movies when they actually look better in certain scenarios, like this one?
I can understand using CGI on big creatures and ships, but why not keep using it on small things, just to get a level of reality that can't be obtained with CGI.

He called them his friends in the first movie too. He's a prickly little guy and hard to like but he clings to the Guardians very tightly as they are the only family he's ever known. Witness him instantly deciding to do a dangerous number of warp jumps to get to them in -2.

Less time efficient. CG sounds more costly but can be completed after filming with a more comfortable crew. Animatronics require crazy amounts of pre production prep work. There are also likely to be less people working with them which means you're putting what's already a more strenuous job in the hands of a smaller crew. CG has more total man hours but has countless people touching things up, after filming, and from the comfort of an office. The environment is just less stressful.
Additionally, test audiences have been conditioned for movies to look a certain way. That means, and this is gonna sound weird, they think obvious CG is a good thing while practical effects look bad.

>Drax threw more punches on this ride than he did in the entirety of Volume 2.
Odd.

Time. CGI has a faster turn around if you have enough monkeys doing the work for ILM in Hong Kong on the cheap.
For the Jurassic Park movie, the FX teams had a full year to perfect their craft (both CGI and Prop departments did.)
For Jurassic World the physical effects department had three months.

There's six drop profiles, each with their own song.

I wish they put the Alien Encounter alien in the queue, it would have fit perfectly. On a side note they should bring that ride back for Halloween.
