I think it's fine in the sense that the kids are just students at Xavier's, and not a part of the X-Men team, so they shouldn't have uniforms yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they get a final hero shot like in Apocalypse.

New Mutants lends itself better to that though, the art and tone of the first arcs veered toward a lot of mental trauma stuff.
