In my view the worst moment is the whole "humans start hunting down the Autobots even after the Autobots publicly take down the Decepticons who killed billions" thing. There should have been many, MANY witnesses (including soldiers, especially the generals), photographs, and video showing the Autobots as the good guys. At most it should have been a "thanks for your help, now please leave" situation.

Arcee being forcibly changed didn't feel bad to me, if we go with "Cybertron only had 'male' body-type transformers" as the assumption at the time. The bad part is the whole "well, why doesn't she just change BACK?" issue.

Humans are always forced to be aggressive pieces of shit in most TF fiction nowadays with the exception of token teenager human companions. I'd expect /co/ to be weird about it but when people actually working on the comics talk about making Chromia and Nautica look more like the other autobots to make their gender harder to determine... motherfucker Chromia was literally the first female autobot to show up in the G1 cartoon. The reason I feel so strongly about it is because it comes across as a "no girls allowed" sign hung up on a tree house. Like, if I wanted to get my niece into transformers and wanted to get her a toy she'd enjoy (she's big into pink but also open to badass robots because she's cool like that), I don't want to have to have some complicated sociology discussion with her about the nature of gender politics. I just want to be able to give her a girl robot she can identify with.

As-is, Tarantulas can already create artificial transformers, so the issue is just getting the artificial spark creation going in the "womb" that would need to be installed. Though, logistics would probably require that the womb be installed in the larger transformers, like titans, Omega Supreme-types, and those in the same size category as Fort Max/Ultra Magnus/Astrotrain.

I used that combination because Tarantulas has an extensive knowledge of earth biology, and created a cybertronian android. Brainstorm is the Hank Pym of IDW. And one of those shapeshifters would offer a unique adaptive perspective. And seeing as Rung can create one of the most vital components and he's relatively small for a cybertronian you might be able to do something with a bot the size of Magnus. At worst Maximus Magnus. Plus protoforms start out small in IDW. Their the same size as a newborn relatively speaking so...slightly smaller than an adult human?

Completely dropped it seems which is frustrating because it had so much potential. That being said, Barber could probably play it off and excuse that dropped plot thread by stating Prowl has to be physically present somewhere near Optimus in order for the influence to really emerge. Gah, I used to love Transformers but now it just makes me angry. Even though "it depends on continuity" covers everything, any change that goes different from the idealized version that exists in my head pisses me off. Having decompressed monthly stories that come out over the span of years instead of being completed by the time I read it doesn't help. Similarly, nu-RID doesn't appeal to me compared to cartoons that ran in the past. Toywise, the current ones tend to focus on very bland designs that pull too much from simplified animation models and have mediocre altmodes. The only sort of out would be designing my own perfect series, and that would just be a self-wanking fanfiction that apes off what I thought was cool instead of exploring its own ideas and would not appeal to others, even before factoring my shitty writing skills.

Well they're supposed to be preprogrammed. The leeching surrounding metal may just be natural metal deposits the spark reformats into sentio metallico. So the spark has the basic instructions basically and the sentio metallico forms the protoform. You go from glowy ball and snowflake into jellybean that quickly develops features such as arms, the head, legs and such. The protoform stuff was in the Christmas annual and the spark and SM stuff was in recent issues of LL.

Megatron origin is a little bit chaotic but the general setting and plot starts to fall into place as you go on along the reading order.
Keep in mind, Furman, Costa, Barber, and Roberts have written all their books for the long haul. For example, shit that happens in Spotlight: Shockwave will have drastic impact on an arc post-war! Basically if you think a plot thread has been dropped. Trust me. It most likely has not.

Assuming that the Functionists succeeded in creating Not!Unicron and started their galaxy-wide war, they likely would have noticed and worked to stop it.

The likelihood of succeeding would be very low, however, given that Functionist forces could easily be coopted, and the Matrix itself is lacking. And that's not to mention the difficulties they may have with developing technology to deal with the Dead Universe's influence.

Perhaps others would notice and try to work against it, like the Galactic Council, but we can't be sure they have what's needed to stop it.

At the very least Shockwave would have been subject to Empurata. Perhaps his intelligence would have allowed him to modify himself to escape the notice of the Functionists and bide his time. In search of Energon it's very likely they'd awake Trypticon at the least though. Such mass destruction would probably lead to everyone saying fuck you to the council though as they have no ability to protect anyone. So a lot of hiding in Cybertron's crust and probably homemade rockets to get away. MAYBE Omega would be around but I think Nova found him didn't he?

Yeah, even before the empurata Shockwave sent out the ore missiles. Though the specific circumstances would change, yes, he probably would have suffered empurata.

Omega was found in the Crystal City by Nova, and went up to the surface alongside the city. After Nova took off, Omega defeated Monstructor, imprisoned his components, and went off to the polar caps to wait for Nova's return. It was Optimus Prime who reached him and convinced him to return to society. So he would still be out there in a Functionist world.

Honestly Shockwave could still go through with most of his Regenisis plan in the Sea Of Rust. The conditions are already extremely erratic. Miniature biodmes underneath and in it, plus his closer proximity will allow him to monitor the progress of his ores much more closely. He can siphon off energon from that massive reserve that changed the dynobots, and Ore-13 was so damn good that without him regulating it, it would have made earth itself toxic to cybertronians. So as far as energy needs go he's probably set.

In my view, a non-empurata Shockwave would have taken his Outliers, Optimus, and a few others and ran off when the Senate voted to seal off Vector Sigma. They would probably be hunted down by Functionist stooges, and would continue to run until they reached the ice caps and met up with Omega Supreme, who would help them establish an outpost.

They would probably make contact with Adaptica, and would probably fly in, guns blazing, when the moon is set upon them.

Can't really imagine Optimus finding the Matrix in this scenario, though.

Personally, I am annoyed that all of the Circle of Light refused to join. Certainly I didn't expect them all to join, but I figured at least one would think "hey, they did SAVE us..."

And I think that's very much plausible. Though there's probably the slight issue in terms of having Optimus-esque stand-ins (Ginrai, Star Saber, Primal, Leo Convoy) enter the comics, which means they compete for the Optimus spot, or at least in the Lost Light case they'd compete with the Megatron/Rodimus leadership. Thunderclash pretty much disappeared after joining, at least until the actual mutiny...

Fair enough, my memory on that is fuzzy. Perhaps I shouldn't have binged on the TF trinity comics. It also doesn't help that I can't recognize transformers without looking at them at least in twenty different issues.

But he still pretty much disappeared after joining, since he'd certainly compete with the leadership spot. For better or worse, storytelling works best when there are one or two people who fill a certain niche.
