Superman isn't that good. Not to say he's a villain or a bad guy but I don't think anyone would argue ( I know someone is going to argue) that they went for a murkier, unsure, more troubled depiction of a hero in these movies. Superman isn't the unblemished beacon of goodwill and virtue that you might be used to. And in that vain,but keeping with the standard of having a villain shown to be the opposite of the hero, you get this Lex.

Much more sure of himself than Supes but also more chipper and playful. Look at your normal representation of Batman and then the Joker. This Lex was born out of the same formula many villains are. But when you change the Superman part of the equation you change the outcome of the Lex part.

DCEU Superman is controversial, but I've been a Superman fan for over 20 years, and I fucking love him. Despite being ostracized, he never stops doing what's right. It's a new angle for films to see him challenged, and finding his place in the world. That'll make it all the sweeter when he rises again in JL and completes his arc.

I was watching MoS clips earlier today and noticed something I had never picked up on before.

Context: scene is on Zod's ship. Lois is hurtling towards earth in a space-pod. Jor-El instructs Clark to open up a panel on the side of the ship to see out. The next shot is pic related. It's Clark looking out at the planet and what does Clark say? 'Lois'.

Zack is really good at that stuff. Maybe he's not the best at cohesive stories but when it comes to extending the way characters are through movies, he's very mindful.

I love the arcs he's created for Clark, Bruce and even Diana.

Clark has slowly been developing into the iconic version of Superman, whereas a far-gone Bruce has developed back into a Batman who believes in what he is doing and saving lives. They both facilitated each other's growth and it really tied these two characters together.

Although Diana didn't get much screentime in BvS, we see how she had given up on humanity but Clark's sacrifice reminded her - and Bruce - that men are still good. People shit on Snyder's Superman a lot and how he's not hopeful enough, but his characters instilled a great deal of hope into the DCEU. He just needed more hope for himself, which I think we'll see in JL when he returns to complete his arc and transition into Superman we all know and love.
