There are people on this very board, who will still argue that this wasn't the best Spider-Man cartoon series.

Those people are wrong.
>>
No, Spider-Man: The New Animated Series is the second or third best.
>>
Barnes was a GOAT Spidey voice.
>>
>>92586707

Too bad he died a horrible death in Spiderverse.

Or did the new Secret Wars fix all that?
>>
I won't argue the point. I will say that Spider-Man is a boring shitty character though.
>>
>>92586707
Spectacular Spider-man was the best cartoon.
>>
>>92586907
This show was fucking filled with amazing voices.

Kingpin was AMAZING; Alistair was great, Eddie Brock.
>>
>>92586907
"A" implies there's an equal. It's up there with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill in BTAS in terms of perfect casting.

>>
This shit is only so beloved because of nostalgia.

It tried way too hard to be like Batman TAS but lacked the budget and attention to detail, it didn't take inspiration from a single Spider-Man run, it didn't bother to adapt classic self-contained issues, it just lacked a unified vision altogether.

Spectacular was a much better attempt. It picked a single classic run to take most of its direction from (Lee/Ditko). They spent money for great animation and top-tier writers. It took influence from the movies without just being moviefag pandering.
>>
>other people liked this one
Damn. I'm not alone anymore.

>Cartoons don't look this Aryan anymore.
>>
>>92586926

Wasn't that the Spider-Man from the Spider-man and his Amazing firends?
>>
>>92587806
No, it was Spider-Man from Spider-Man Unlimited, which isn't canon to TAS according to Marvel editorial /and/ the official creators of TAS.
>>
>Barnes will never come back as Spidey.

Why does it hurt so much? I just want all these guys back as their characters for one other series. It doesn't even have to be tied to TAS, they're just that good.
>>
>>92587883
Unfortunately he can't because fucking everyone is on the Spider-Man has to always be a kid train. Barnes sounded like a MAN, and that won't fly with the new Homecoming inspired direction the're going for.
>>
>>92587964
Why do they always pick the worse version of Spider-Man to adapt?
>>
I can acknowledge on an intellectual level that Spectacular is better, but TAS holds a special place in my heart.

>>92588195
because he was based on the original Peter Parker and not the prissy beta male that he's become since then
>>
This one was great. It's a very rare instance of an adaptation getting everything about Spider-Man right. They changed things, but at its core it was faithful to the character Lee and Ditko created.
The best part was his character growth, especially at the ending when he made peace with his tragedies and was satisfied with how he had been living his life. CDB really portrayed that well so that scene really stuck with me.

I remember reading a story where she joined up with a bunch of villains like Norman to join up some pieces of stone that would then grant one of them power, one youth, one immortality, one death and one madness, I think. Something like that. I think she was hoping for youth. Anyone have any idea what story I'm talking about?

I never got to read the conclusion because the way comics were done here was that you had a Spider-Man comic where they put in three different Spider-Man stories from across his timeline. You'd read one story where Doc Ock is dead and his daughter is playing around with his corpse, then the next story Doc Ock would be fine and robbing a bank or some shit. They were always staggered as well, so that the ending of one story would happen when the two other stories were half-way done, so you'd keep buying copies to find out what happens in the other ones.

FUN FACT: The animated series was originally envisioned as a continuation of the proposed movie that'd be directed by James Cameron and feature Electro and Sandman as the villains. That's why they're the only notable foes that don't appear in the early episodes, which instead pushed Shocker and Hydro-Man. Cameron's movie was officially scrapped during the series' run and they managed to squeeze Electro in in the later episodes.

The show got even stranger now that we have some guy storytiming it every saturday. Didn't see one this week though
>>
>>92588528
Most of the animated spider-man series have used kraven, dude
If you wanna talk obscure, the show used rocket racer and big wheel in a couple of episodes.

SHOCKER

>okay okay, you win
>spastically shoves conners and Peter out of the way
>clumsily knocks over symbiote vat and falls into it

Wow, this show was hilarious. Why did Eddie hate Spidey in this? I forget.
>>
The writer of the show is writing Cyborg now

Does anyone have a mega?

Eddie had scoops ruined by Spider-man and made a liar out of him and JJ fired him a second time for withholding pictures showing the Rhino as the guy who endangered his son.

Was that the cell-shaded 3d animated one done by MTV(?) right after the first Toby McGuire Spider-man movie?

I always thought that it ended it's one season on a good note. He quit being spider-man. Put his suit in a suitcase with some bricks and an audio recording of himself explaining why he's quitting, and tosses it into a river.

I was sure it was a cheap sequel hook, but actually ending the series with Spider-man saying "fuck this, I'm fed up with trying to be a hero" is pretty unheard of for shows. At least I can't think of any other show to end like that.

Yes, that's the one he's quoting, doofus.
>>
>>92595105
Wasn't this also why they had to use Hobgoblin before Green Goblin?
>>
>>92601006
That was to promote the character since he was bug in comics at the time

It's a hard competition between 3 and 4.

I can still never get over this.

Like They avoid having Mary Jane actually die by having her go into the portal, but then they do this shit.

She comes back, we get to know her again, they get fucking married, they're husband and wife for some time. Wilson Fisk and JJ compete for who will pay for Peter's marriage.

Then they do this shit like it's somehow better? They clearly establish she has all the memories and thoughts of the real Mary Jane, and truly loves Peter. And fuck man, Barnes sells that fucking performance. That's such raw, powerful anguish. It's rare to see emotion that raw and gut wrenching in any performance period, much less a fucking 90s saturday morning cartoon.

90s TAS Osborn is the most fleshed out, 3-dimensional, and engaging version of the character.

The lack of Sandman has always seemed odd. I only discovered him years later when I got into the SM comic lore.

This decision really ended up being for the best I feel like. It worked really well. Hobgoblin was eccentric enough that you bought him going with the goblin motif for the mercenary venture, and this ends up providing a really good origin for Green Goblin, and made Green Goblin seem a lot more significant of an enemy, when he could outperform Hobgoblin so dramatically.

>>92586707
I like that he wasn't a twink highschool spider man
>>
>>92588195
As it should be

>>92601590
i don't mind either body type

Kingpin's voice was fucking perfection. As was Spider-Man's.

THAT SAID: The show was, overall, hot garbage. It does not hold up all that well today. The animation alone makes me want to gouge my eyes out, even by '90s action cartoon standards.
>>
>>92601706
I remember watching it a few years back and liking it. It did have a lot of shitty moments though.
>>
>>92601735

I've seen magical girl anime shows that recycled animation less than the '90s Spider-Man cartoon did.
