Why, I do believe it's time for some early Silver Age!
But enough about me, what've you got planned for the week ahead?
Only two George Tuska stories today. Yes, I have my reasons. No, I'm not just jerking you kids around.
That's enough of Tuska for today...
... Dennis Hopper, who narrated the Rabbit Ears animations, would've been 81 on the 17th...
... Grace Zabriskie was 76...
... Bill Paxton, who died in February, would've been 62...
... Dave Sim was 61...
... Paul Whitehouse was 59...
... Craig Ferguson was 55...
... Jonti Picking, creator of Weebl's Stuff, was 42...
... Dave Berg died 15 years ago that day...
... and Frank Gorshin died twelve years ago.
Bill Everett was born 100 years ago on the 18th...
... Pope John Paul II would've been 97...
... Robert Morse is 86...

Not to shit up the thread, but he should have resigned like Benedict but not before blowing the whistle on those sex abuse cases, then someone like Francis could have stepped in early
Benedict was a disaster for PR
... Don Martin would've been 86...
... Miriam Margolyes was 76...
... Diane Duane was 65...

Man, is Al Jaffee the only idiot of the classic usual gang left? Him and Sergio Aragones.

Yeah, he should've done more. As for resigning... well, it's all very well to be wise after the fact, but if he HAD resigned then it doesn't necessarily follow that Francis would've been a done deal.
Remember, Benedict XVI was the first Pope to resign since Benedict IX, a good 965 years and nine Benedicts ago. Also, the OFFICIAL reason was that he was 86, which is fair enough. They'd already had one Pope dying after a sex scandal, they sure as shit didn't need another one.

Well, Al's 96 and Sergio will be 80 soon, so... y'know.
... Alan Kupperberg would've been 64...
... Tina Fey was 47...
... Daws Butler died 29 years ago that day...
... Jill Ireland died 27 years ago...
... Elisha Cook Jr died 22 years ago...
... as did Elizabeth Montgomery...
... Joseph Pevney, who directed all the best episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series, died 9 years ago...
... Wayne Allwine died 8 years ago...
... and Paul O'Sullivan died five years ago.
... Pat Roach would've been 80 on the 19th...
... Peter Mayhew was 73...
... Andre the Giant would've been 71...
Yeah, there was a reason I only did two tiny Silver Age stories today.
Incidentally, a new thread will be imminent.

Jim Shooter's a nice Catholic boy which explains this and the Mother Teresa issue (and probably Heroes for Hope).

I seem to recall Marvel also had a deal with Spire Publishing (as founded by Al Hartley, who made THOSE Archie comic books). And Heroes For Hope was part of that whole "throw money at Africa and hope it solves everything" phase the 80's went through.

It does explain in the endnotes to this that it's not quite as implausible as you'd think.

Paul Coker, Jr.'s still around, as well as Angelo Torres and Mort Drucker but those two are retired.
