I watched a few of the early episodes recently (haven't seen the whole thing in full, only watched a few random episodes when it aired) and in one episode Ginger's mother mentioned that in the past Courtney insulted Ginger's clothes and made her cry.

Seems sort of mildly bitchy but not to the extent of her friend + also kind of clueless about the lives of people who aren't obscenely rich. Going by how anons here respond possibly she gets better and/or Ginger's friends get shittier.

I do sort of get the impression the show itself seems to want you to see her as a bitch, albeit not a completely irredeemable one. Like the writers maybe weren't entirely aware Ginger's friends were kind of awful as well.

Except in this case I don't think she was, like what the fuck, but more evidence to make me think she maybe wasn't supposed to be likable but ended up being so. I guess in some cases it was deliberate but, just for the early episodes because I know things change, it almost seemed like letting Dodie etc. get away with more because they're Ginger's friends.

Which is actually realistic; I'm not really getting on the show and I like how most of the characters seemed realistically terrible. Just the fact that Courtney isn't present in that future scene at the end of the series seems like maybe the writers never liked her as much as fans probably did.

From what others have said over the years in threads just like this she was originally planed to come out as lesbian with a crush on Ginger. The plans they had for this for the later episodes were shelved by executives at nick.
