In a similar case, that's like complaining that the Bobby Santiago character and the Ronnie Anne Santiago character in The Loud House, both of which were originally white, should've stayed that way when they hired a Hispanic actor for Bobby, when ultimately it was a better off choice and influenced how their characters went on with the whole show.
Characters being changed or influenced by the actors that play them isn't something new, and isn't saying that the actor can't "play a character that isn't like themselves", it's to make the character feel more natural and a choice, by the creators.

I've been watching a lot of 80s/90s movies recently and I think the sentiment that race relations are worse than they've been in decades is totally spot on. It makes sense there are more white (and Jewish) actors in a majority white country, in a vastly majority white/Jewish industry.

But, still, I see plenty of black, asian, and latino actors in a variety of roles and genres in 80s/90s films. Maybe there were slightly less than today, but here's a big difference: their race didn't matter in the role. In almost every circumstance, they aren't white or black or asian actors, they're just actors playing their characters. Racial dynamics didn't need to be shoehorned into everything.

Just something I think about and lament.
