MCU Spider-Man theme
>>
I'm impressed ngl.

Also the timing of this status post too...
>>
What are the odds of the movie being good?
>>
>>92514570
>First good thing to come out of this shit movie.

Brava.
>>
Here it is over the Marvel logo
https://streamable.com/wtg20
>>
>>92514622
Very VERY slim.

But normies will eat it up.
>>
>>92514570
Man, if they actually use this it'd be great.
>>
I'm going to be the contrarian. Relying on nostalgia to promote your 3rd reboot just seems kind of desperate.
>>
Oh god that poor woman at the 15 second mark...

"I was supposed to be doing something with my life..."
>>
>>92514622
Hard to say. When Marvel needs to prove themselves, they do great stuff. When they don't, they make Thor 2.
>>
>>92514736
Do you know much people get paid to do shit like that? That's pretty much the big leagues.
>>
>>92514622
At most? It'll be average. The trailers gave away all the beats of the film, and they look very predictable. I wouldn't be shocked if Cap has a larger cameo, but they gave it away with the video tape scene.
>>
>>92514777
I'm not knocking the work, she just looks SO unhappy to be there
>>
>>92514853
She could just be focusing.
>>
>>92514753
Hopefully their mentality was "it's our main fucking character let's do this right" instead of "It's spidey, people will watch it regardless, let's play safe"
>>
>>92514957
That's what I feel like they're going to do, and I'm approaching the changes as "They've seen this movie 100 times already," we owe them something different.
>>
>>92514736
Hollywood's spending millions on dumb shit for centuries now. "Capeshit" is not any worse or better than the rest
>>
>>92514853
When recording, most musicians typically look extremely focused when playing because A. what they put out will be heard by millions and thus is the work they will be judged on in a mainstream sense, and B. They don't have an audience to visually appeal to in that moment, and can focus on putting out the best sound possible at that given second.

This goes triply for orchestras.
>>
>>92514957
They're clearly not. It looks more like an Iron Man movie than a Spider-Man movie.

Not to mention all the shit that made the comics good are nowhere to be seen.
>>
>>92514622
it's MCU so 1,000,000,000%
>>
>>92514570
no it's not stupid, that's them playing the old one for a gimmick, it's not actually the movie's OST
>>
>>92515027
>more like an Iron Man movie
Fucking how? He shows up to tie plot threads together from Civil War and then he tells Peter to hang up the cowl. It's all about Peter's development and trying to prove himself a capable hero.
>>
>>92514957
>"It's spidey, people will watch it regardless, let's play safe"
That's what I got from the trailer. Like, it looks like a less daring Spider-Man film.
>>
>>92514570
Ok that actually got me more hyped than all the trailers/posters/clips combined
>>
>>92514570
well at least the credit music will be good
>>
>>92515096
>Main villain motive directly involves Stark Industries.

>Pepper Potts to return in this movie.

>Stark gets a new armor.

>Peter will have a JARVIS-like AI in his costume

>Peter constantly sucking up to Iron Man.
>>
>>92515096
The film has Spider-Man being Spider-Man solely to impress Tony and the Avengers, while the Vulture wants to get Iron Man for putting his company out of business.
>>
>>92514736

You must think that the smiling employees at McDonalds must REALLY love their jobs.
>>
>>92515170
>Spider-Man solely to impress Tony and the Avengers

Of all the things that piss me off about MCU Spider-Man, this one pisses me off the most. It's so out of character for him.
>>
>>92515191
>It's so out of character for him.
It's perfectly in-character for the MCU's spiderman, though.
>>
>>92515191
How? Is it because he wants to impress Tony and the Avengers instead of the Fantastic Four?
>>
>>92515154
>Pepper Potts to return in this movie.
Really?
>>
>>92515233
Did you even read the comic you're referencing? Because it didn't go down the way you think it is. He thought the Fantastic Four was getting paid for their heroics, so he broke into the Baxter Building and beat the crap out of them in hopes that they'd be impressed with how tough he was, so he'd get a job. Then when he realized they didn't get paid he yelled at them and stormed off.
>>
>>92514957
>Hopefully their mentality was "it's our main fucking character let's do this right" instead of "It's spidey, people will watch it regardless, let's play safe"
We're talking about the MCU here. And Disney, so don't kid yourself.
>>
>>92515233
He wanted to impress the F4 by beating every single one of them in combatm (and he almost did)

Here he's acting like he wants daddy's aproval.
>>
>>92515154
Vulture's business being put out of business by Stark's is just world building. The trailers make it seem like he couldn't care less about Stark himself.

Paltrow hasn't been seen on set and some literally who tabloid site was the only one to SPECULATE that she might return.

Stark gets a new armor literally every movie.

Pete has an AI in his costume? That's news to me. What's it do?

Iron Man is a billionaire playboy genius. What immature kid WOULDN'T want to be like Stark?

What' annoying me is how Spider-Man is morphing more and more into the fan interpretation of the character. He's now there to be the Avengers suck up and constantly is the adorable screw up. He'll be retarded until the plot demands him to suddenly be super smart. At this point, people act like Iron Man being Peter's new Uncle Ben is a good thing. All the laughs, none of the heart.

Like, you remember when the first Avengers came out and there was a creepy subculture of fangirls who wanted Tony to impregnate Cap and then have Spider-Man as their baby they raise together? This Spider-Man feels like he is entirely made by that fan culture.
>>
>>92515292
>Vulture's business being put out of business by Stark's is just world building. The trailers make it seem like he couldn't care less about Stark himself.

With all the other stuff including Tony, I'd beg to differ.

>Stark gets a new armor literally every movie.

But Spider-Man does not, in his own movie.

Was hoping someway somehow we'd get this theme back, it is a joint production after all.
But Danny Elfman's theme might not even be appropriate, after all Spider-Man (2002) is a movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming is a Marvel movie.

I find it so strange how Marvel is so condescending of the 90's series, yet the 60's one is treated like a holy grail. I'd honestly have more a of a fan freak out if the 90's show was referenced over more of the constant 60's wanking.

It reminds of that video were they ask a bunch of people to sing the theme from any of the Marvel movies. The theme from the 60's Spiderman cartoon was the only Marvel related music most people remembered.

Why is it that the 60's cartoons are so well known compared to some recent stuff? Like, how did a lame Justice League show define Aquaman as "Just speaks to fish"?
>>
>>92515576
Because the heart of teenage Spider-Man was about a kid pretending to be a man and having to deal with paying for his aunt's medication, going to school, and being a super hero. It deep, relatable, and meaningful.

It isn't about a predictable plot of a kid learning to be his own person.

Which turned out to be a ruse by Tony so that he could preform experiments on Peter without his permission to make an army of Spider-Men.

for the record, there hasn't been a single memorable cape song in the last 20 years. people will link youtube links to this comment but it doesn't change the fact that they aren't memorable. nobody knows them. nobody remembers them. they aren't used in marketing or advertising.

the age of memorable music is dead.

not a film score

I'd go on to argue that there hasn't been a completely memorable film score in the last couple years either but that would be too much delving off the point. the point is is that marketing makes a song memorable, not its inherent quality. nobody would remember the star wars music if it wasn't spammed everywhere in commercials and media. the only reason we know musical themes is repetition from commercials and media

Just because you can rely on nostalgia doesn't make it good. Raimi's trilogy had a great theme. Hell, you can make a new theme that homages the 60's theme, but don't just use the 60's theme.

Because Marvel is fucking retarded when it comes to this franchise.

Sales /still/ have never recovered since OMD.

They ruined Black Cat because "Spider-Man can't be friends with a criminal".

They made Gwen cuck Peter with Norman, because the original script involved Peter finding out he had a child, which ages him.

And /now/ they're saying he should have never left highschool. Despite the fact that entire fucking point of the character is that he's supposed to be allowed to grow.

Because movies are memorable because they're good. They make you feel something and have you on the edge of your seat. It's memorable because it was a great movie.

The goal in making a film is for it to be great and henceforth memorable. No one approaches their creation and says "I want this one to be mediocre."

>>
>>92516332
They had the Avengers theme, which they reused only one time in AoU. Did they use a somber rendition of the theme in Civil War to underscore the shattering of the team? Nope! A brand new theme it is. IM1 had a recognizable score too, but they haven't gone back to it either. Iron Man had multiple central motifs through his trilogy.

All they need is to stick to melodies and build a recognizable musical vocabulary. But they can't do that when every single movie has a new bland forgettable score.

Doctor Strange was a rare exception, but even that won't be carried forward I bet because of the Star Trek comparisons. I hate to bring Hans Zimmer of all people into this, but at least he understands the importance of recurring themes. Supes, Bats, Wondy, they all have a recognizable musical signature.

The Avengers theme was failed marketing hence the switch. Iron Man didn't even have memorable music, nig.

I agree that if they want an iconic tune they should spend more time marketing it, but it won't do if they try and force a shitty random song they come up with. It'd feel forced as fuck, you can argue people would grow into it, but is not likely to happen.
The best bet is to try to make an actual good song that resonates with people and then proceed with the mass marketing.

Look, people make movies for all sorts of reasons. I'm pretty sure Tommy Wiseau made The Room because he thought he'd become a movie star and get showered with coke and women. Some directors make movies hoping they'll be good, great even; but movies aren't made just by directors. Studios make movies to make money, and that goal supersedes all other goals. That said, tent pole movies exist, in part, to give studios the flexibility to produce riskier properties, so not all movies are intended to make a ton of money, but neither are any made with the intent to achieve greatness at the cost of losing revenue.

Sure they do. I mean, we may not want everything we do to be shit, but sometimes you just do a job well enough, you know? Sometimes you kn ow you're stuck polishing a turd and all you can hope is that it's niot a completely revolting turd.

Movies fail for lots of reasons, and most of the time, those reasons are much more complex than "the director/writer was bad".
>>

>the age of memorable music is dead.

In a not-so-strange coincidence, most of the composers who wrote memorable film music -- i.e. Bernard Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith, Henry Mancini, Elmer Bernstein, John Barry, James Horner (when he was young in the 80's) -- have all left us. Only John Williams is still around, and he's 85.

But I'd actually look towards the producers and directors who demand that a big action score be white noise and interchangeable with one another (or perfectly bland for a non-event film) if you want to discover the reason why memorable themes have slowly vanished over the last two decades.

Opinions vary, but I think it'll be terrible.

If anything, it looks to me like an Iron Man spin-off movie with plenty of forced diversity, a far too high-tech Stark suit, and a Peter Parker/Spider-Man who acts like a whiny douche (not to mention the embarrassingly stereotypical "fat best friend" who knows his secret and becomes his confidante). Based on that alone, I can comfortably skip out on this latest reboot. The only positive is that at least it's not Miles Morales.

Now as to whether Spider-Man: Homecoming will be profitable?

Let's just say this. As of 2017, Kevin Feige could shit into a basket, stamp Marvel Studios on it, and people would line up around the block to eat it. And I guess in a way, they do.

Villain actors in MCU films that aren't Tom Hiddleston tend to be not required for heavy promotion on Press Tours, for the most part. At best, they show up for a press conference or two.

I expect that Josh Brolin might be a little more involved, given how big his role is.

Not Spidey but MCU and I've been thinking it for a while but it doesn't deserve it's own thread. They should have killed Iron Man in Avengers (not killed but left him on the other side of the portal). They could have brought him back later, but everyone loves Iron Man and he's just about MCU's main character so his death would have been more impactful.

Looking forward to Spidey. Not expecting it to be perfect.

-SPIDER MAN WITH EXTREME PUSHING ACTION
>>
>>92522513
I don't see the problem with having Spider-man be around average or below average height? It makes sense since Spider-man is an agile character. Most Male Olympic Gymnasts are usually below 6" and for good reason. In fact, most of the people who are skilled in acrobatic disciplines of any kind are usually on the short side. Nightwing is 5"10 and it makes sense for his character since he's suppose to be the "Nimble" One.

I know Spidey is the one who rakes in all of the money, but I always viewed Captain America as the "main character" of Marvel, if such a thing exists.
>>
>>92524428
He's not, though. Captain America is only selling as highly as he is now due to movie pushing. Brubaker and some good runs pre the MCU did help, but Spidey is and always will be the flagship Marvel character. That's been the case since before most of the people on /co/ were born. At least the 70s, if not fairly soon after the character was introduced.

Fuck off cunt. There are plenty of villains spidey faces who want revenge against some billionare who bankrupted them or something.

Look at Fisk or more notably Osborn. Using Stark as a villain is just as normal and a way to show that spidey and friends are in the MCU.
