Certain Characters should be kept free of official ships. They either end up becoming a slut (see Nightwing) as they have flings that hit an editorial brick wall and end, move onto the next one, or force the character to develop and move out of their niche.

Kara should be kept~16/17, non committed, and have more sisterly relationships. BFF with Steph Brown, older sister to Jon. Getting her into a relationship doesn't work because they inevitably don't last.

Beyond that it's a little iffy. It's certainly plausible, but they weren't able to settle down/get married/whatever Levitz had planned because DC decided to kill her in COIE. And I can't remember them being shown in bed together.

Any time after that they basically didn't coexist or the ages didn't align well enough to show much of their relationship on page. Basically it's only been in a Supergirl Annual by Gates and then a few references about how it was weird that he was meeting her younger than the one he dated.

Classic Silver Age Kara that died during COIE.

POst Crisis there was Matrix who was a protoplasmic entity from a parallel dimension that was modeled after Lana Lang and could imitate Superman's powers while having a few unique ones like psychic powers and shape-shifting. She eventually merged with Linda Danvers and became an "Earthbound Angel" and gained flaming wings and fire powers.

At some point the two of them split apart again and Linda retained a portion of Matrix's powers and started acting as Supergirl in the white t-shirt inspired by the animated version. She's the one who married a Pre-Crisis Superman and had a daughter, Arella Kent, who survived the Crisis and is still tooling around in the 853rd Century somewhere. Linda eventually just said fuck it and retired, never to be seen again. Unless you count Peter David's "Dark Angel" series.

Some time around the late 90s we got Cir-El, who wore a black costume and a blue cape and claimed to be from the future and was either Superman's daughter or one of his descendants. I think she turned out to actually be some homeless girl Brainiac abducted and genetically altered in order to fuck with Superman. I don't know what became of her.

Then there's Powergirl, post crisis she had various conflicting origins including being Superman's cousin, the descendant of Arion the ancient Atlantean Sorcerer, and briefly that she was actually Laurel Gand, a Daxamite from the 31st Century who was part of the Legion. Following Infinite Crisis, she was revealed to be the Earth 2 Supergirl who somehow survived the original COIE.

Then Dan Didio wanted to get back to basics and we got Kara Zor-El, Clark's cousin from Krypton, who was kind of a bitch and this version lasted until the Nu52.

Now I don't know where we are.

She was 16 when the New52 began and Rebirth #1 established five years had passed with Damian becaming 13, which means she ought be 20-21.

Superman Reborn re-established the 15 year timeline pre-Flashpoint had, if not the details. So I assume she's STILL 20-21 in the "present", and got introduced in whatever equivalent DCU year that 2004 pre-Flashpoint Kara came to prominence in, and had her adventures happen in a much more natural and longer way to the "present." Sorta the way they established Jon was born shortly after Superman and Lois's wedding.

But I was always a fan of her being within Dick's age as she had been pre-Crisis (older than Dick but only by a couple years, like Batgirl), I can handle her being a couple years younger in the Rebirth world as long as she's within Dick's age range. Let her be a young adult/early 20-something.

Sometimes I wonder who got the balls to date a super heroine, but specially Kara, knowing her lineage
