Has anyone seen this? Its a trailer for an upcoming movie based on a 60s comic book.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN0zPOpADL4
Apparently a pretty based comic
>>92506563
So it's finally happening?
>>92506584
Agent Olga
Looks good
Hope it gets made that was a good short.
Grutjes nog aan toe ..
>still no English language editions
but why
>>92506563
I remember all humor being based on dutch pop references and wordplay, don't know how they'd translate that.
Are you sure it's a trailer? Blender Foundation usually just do these shorts.
Does anyone remember that Goon trailer? They even made a kickstarter, and nothing happened since.
>>92507227
>This three-minute teaser for a full-length animated feature is based on Dutch artist Martin Lodewijk's classic comics series Agent 327. The Blender Animation Studio is currently developing the story and seeks for funding to bring this adventurous comedy animation film to an international audience.
I like it.
Euh, why is he so ugly? Is he a Brit?
>>92507200
Because it's pun-based.
>>92507268
So is Iznogoud, and it has been published in English.
>>92507259
He's a parody of Craig Stevens.
>>92507297
Doesn't look like him.
>>92507200
>>92507226
>>92507268
Dont know, but i have all german translated issues.
It works well. If you are a good translater you will make it work.
>>92507295
Maybe if the movie gets made the comic will get translated.
Seems backward to me though. Maybe they should have popularized the comic internationally first before makign a kickstarter.
>>92506563
Holy shiznit. What the heck is this doing in a children's movie?
>>92506563
looks good, but i can't help but feel like there's something missing in the visuals, hair doesn't seem as polished as in other 3d software.
>>92507388
I almost can understand what they say. Dutch looks like English with a broken accent.
>>92507417
Yeah, I don't like Zonlic either.
>>92506563
well, that was darker than I thought it'd be
looks good
>>92507388
Ijzerbrood's main appeal is his charmingly dutch use of platitudes. You lose something in the translation. But I tried anyway.
>>92507603
I thought she was saying "How do you expect me to hide a weapon in such skimpy clothes?" or something.
Are those guys the good old IRA, btw?
>>92507643
Haha, no her problem is opposite, she always keeps her gun in the place nobody dares to look for and with this much coverage she can't reach it.
They might be IRA, I don't know what comic this is from.
>>92507200
Jonnys don't surf, Anglos don't translate.
>>92507729

Welp, I guess I will download all the scans I can find and spend the weekend fapping at her.
Hope it gets made, looks enjoyable.

Ubermensch.
I'm betting the lady is given the Tifa treatment in the movie.
>>92511708
She might not even be in it.
>>92506563
Ja, this is happening.
>>92512212
>that haircut
>those bazongas
Best homage to Carrie Fisher ever.
327 is pretty cool, he fights bond villain parodies and doesn't afraid of anything
Hoe do you like your frites?
Met?
Would you eat frites on your fiets?
>>92512313
oorlog; saté sauce, mayonaisse and onion bits
>>92512313
Of course I forget the damn page.
>>92512366
Sadly as an American I have to make do with mayo.
I rmemeber a story where Agent 327was absent for most of the time, and a beautiful blonde secretary plus a young hairy secret agent solved the crime. I liked it; it was unconventional. In fact, the mission was a failure and everything
>>92512354
Would you like me to translate these?
Well that looks pretty darn good.
>>92512423
If you feel like.
Somewhat unrelated, but if you're looking for a good cgi movie about secret agents based in a comic, watch "Mortadelo y Filemon vs Jimmy el Cachondo"

>>92506563
>327 movie
I am beyond hype.
I wish someone would translate the ~12 latest albums;_;
>>92512912
Some of them are translated?
I don't know anything about the comic series but that was an insanely entertaining 4 minute short. I'd love to watch a full feature.
Just curious why the movie is in English but the comics remain untranslated. Not that I'm complaining about the movie being in English, I'm just wondering why the comics themselves haven't been translated.
>>92512447
Holy fuck it's almost.... Refreshing to see these racist caricatures used genuinely. Almost heartwarming.
>>92513054
I'd imagine they're trying to sell people on it and English is one of the more common second languages.
>>92507388
Is this belgian?
Never seen ''u'' used much like that in dutch media, but then I do suppose it's from the 60s
>>92513062
There another album chock full of them.
Has a whole Dr. No/Bond villain with a secret lair thing going on.
>>92512936
The first ~dozen albums has official translations in my language. The publisher that did them died during the long hiatus, and no other publisher has picked them up since.
This may or may not be that bad really, since the only company I can see pick it up does Sosich tier translations.
>>92512575
I love Hans's reaction in the 3rd row.
>lobotomy
apart that it was pretty good.
>>92513169
Not English then? I'd have felt kinda stupid posting the Dutch if an English version existed.
>>92506563
Anything that's not a "le funneh talking animal/monster/ayy lmao thing" is a nice change of pace. Looking forward to it.
>>92509607

His name is Boris. Boris Kloris in my language, but I'm not sure if that's his lastname in dutch.
>>92513278

Nope. A while ago I asked phil if he wanted to pick it up, but he doesn't do pun stuff.
>>92506563

What books does Phil do?
>>92511256
Olga Lawina, She just is. One of seven kids born to an adventurer to seven different mothers with seven different nationalities (She's the Swiss one), one for each days of the week. All because of a saying in our language concerning children born on a sunday.

Dutch. It started in the sixties, but technically it's still going on. Herman is just a little formal.
>>92507417
He's a secret agent and it's literally a James Bond parody, not the Carebears.

Her methods are wasteful and inefficient. Failure is inevitable.
>>92513561
Trolls of Troy looks kinda neat.
>>92507417
One of the albums has a literal satan cult in it, complete with off panel human sacrifice and a guy with a goathead mask.
>>92512407
If long hair guy has that grunge can't-see-his-face hairstyle, then it's most likely his nephew.
>>92512447

>>92513764
Notice the accurate anatomy of the spider. I have seen comics where there was less attention to that.
Like Spider-Man, for instance.
>>92513670
That's not Phil though.
Waha, the human girl in the Trolls series, has a 3 seasons cartoon if you can into frog.
Funny thing is one was my Opa the other is an uncle.
The voice is probably just a placeholder until they get an actual film made.
Quite a task, this translation business
Not really something I shoul try to do in real-time with the thread
>>92513858
Meant for >>92513761
>>92513677
>If long hair guy has that grunge can't-see-his-face hairstyle
Yes.
>>92513895
I have two so far, and I'm calling it quits
I would have continued until the premise is clear, but even that would take longer than this tread will exist for
>Dutch comics
I like JOOP KIEPZEIKER, Hanco Kolk's MECANNO and COWBOY HENK
>>92513895
It's a good effort but as far as the thread goes I think just doing a bit of summary would be easier.
>>92513169
>Hans
Welp, just realized he's called Hendrik in the original.
In my language he's called Hans Harkhoost which translates to Hans Coughsputter
>>92513935
The song is supposed to be a running gag right?
I looked for it but google gave me nothing but the comic strip.
>>92512248
>Wu Manchu
I can't even read dutch, and this pun is atrocious.
>>92514003
Only Dutch comics I physically own are Gutsman Comics and Knudde book I got when I was little.
Also a copy of De X-Mannen but that doesn't really count.
>>92514088
>3 of the 8
Reminds me of the story were Olga gets a rogue sentence and gets "killed" by Hendrik. Loved the ending.
>>92513239
Well, it's not really a lobotomy... more of a cranial surgery, and Wu Manchu does (evil) brain surgery on her top minions.
>>92514003
>MECANNO
My melatonin enriched sibling from another female of the species.
One of the comic books I read a lot as a child. I loved the Bond parody stuff.
I think my favourite might have been the one leading up to the bermuda triangle arc. And the one with the Japanese suicide rocket, although that one is hazy.
>>92514289
..It might be a lobotomy. They lose their free will and most of their intelligence.
>>92514412
Oh, you don't know what a lobotomy does.
It's fair: the primary guy who was practicing it didn't really know what it did. He killed about 1/3rd of his "patients" doing an insane procedure with a kitchen implement.
Sorry, but Lobotomies have been in my podcast feed recently, between Lore and Stuff You Missed in History Class, i've been hearing about the Lobotomobile from two sources.
>>92507227
We ever getting the Goon movie or is that Deader than SwatKats
>>92514659
Reduced intelligence and personality is a well known effect of lobotomy, it doesn't always turn the victims into complete vegetables. And the mortality rate was actually closer to 5%
Looks pretty good, I like the Stop Motion like feel they are going despite of it being 3D like in the lego movie. Unless I'm just imagining things.
>>92506563
Dang, looks good. A little morbid for a kid's movie, though.
>>92515336
>A little morbid for an American kid's movie
Fixed.
>>92515364
>Attacking someone with a razorblade
>On-screen, implied lobotomy
Don't have a stick up your ass, anon. This would certainly give me nightmares if I were a kid.
>>92515177
>2000
I think I've read everything prior to that.
I think De Ogen Van Wu Manchu is the one where Olga gets the rogue sentence.
>>92506563
I think this looks promising. I'm usually against 3D animated films but I'm genuinely curious about this guy now. Seems like a breath of fresh air.
After looking up some history, it seems that the comic is incredibly dutch be that references, humor, style etc. But if they really set out to release this in english, I think they might be able to carry over the spirit of the original. I hope.
No doubt that SJWs worldwide will be calling Olga and Wu Manchu 'problematic', but fuck em honestly. We need more original ideas on the animation market.
Oh btw, I kept wondering why are issues called albums? This was a comicbook series right? Is it just the dutch word for it? I also read that the song 'Denk toch altijd met liefd' aan je moeder' makes a cameo in the albums so... I suppose that means the song makes an appearance in lyrical form only? Or something else?
>>92513325
Boris Kloris is awesome. Easily Agent 327's best villain. One can only hope for an animated lightsaber fight with thermal lances between the two.
>>92515419
Stop being American.
>>92515420
The later stuff looks a lot more cartoony.
>>92515462
I'm a bit iffy about the change in artstyle, compared to the start, especially for Olga. But I guess that can't be helped when the alternative is stagnating as an artist.
>>92515442
Aw shit, I just remembered that panel. It was bruce.
>>92513830
Martin Lodewijk is a very good artist.
Getting on in age though.
One of my favorite memories of a local comics convention was walking into the dealer room, and the very first guy I saw was Henk Kuipers browsing through a huge load of second-hand comics. The man loves comics.
>>92515430
Agent 327 is a series of graphic novels.
Album(s) is the name in Dutch for issue(s) of a graphic novel series.
>>92515430
Song is in the 8th panel here >>92512354
>>92515630
Pretty sure they used the term album in English for other Euro-comics. There just wasn't any word to describe the type of comic it was.
>>92506563
Is it wrong for me to keep thinking this is some sort of Mr. Bean cartoon? Am I just too stupid and uncultured?
>>92515853
Just relax and think of it as an animated Johnny English.
Then watch Blackadder.
Maybe it's time to continue learning Dutch in duolingo, these comics look fun, I wanna read them.

I mean she isn't yellow face, but she is (far as I know) a Fu-ManChu character with super long nails, super chinese attire, and a voice that's sure to grab someone's attention.
I'm not saying it WOULD get trouble, just that I don't know how it would fly into America exactly. For all I know it could pass in just fine.
>>92516994
i hope so
>>92516677
Ah, Hendrik is NOT a spy, he's a secret agent. The guy who catches spies.

If they have to tone her down or outright replace her to get their funding and to get something in America (for example) then I would totally understand.
