There are so many heroes who end up wearing armored suits when it makes no sense for them to do so, like Superman, and Flash
So I thought this would be a thread for heroes who probably SHOULD have some extra protection in their costume
Cyclops has no reason not to. It's not like he needs his whole body to look at shit.

At least in modern comics the X-Men uniforms are supposed to be made out of some kind of fictional armor material.
Probably not Kevlar because Kevlar sure as shit isn't that flexible and is heavy as hell, but something sturdier then it looks.
Otherwise, you're correct; it seems that his defense relies on hanging back and having what is one of the most perfect offensive attack around, the ability to knock down literally whatever you're looking at and keep it down.
Unless her arm has some kinda bullshit faster-than-human-reaction-time feature that let's it block bullets, Misty should probably wear some body armor
Shield agents. Probably unsaid durable material or something but for the most part they have skin tight clothes with some pouches
Pic related and pretty much every kung fu character as well. Maybe it is for mobility but hand to hand combat guys seem to never wear any protection.

he's got that diaper
that's a kind of extra protection

What purpose does the yellow strap serve?

He can store things like communicators, snacks, business cards for Xavier's, pens, medicine...

The best defense is being able to obliterate everything you look at.

holds the diaper up
extra protexion

He could still get capped in the back of the head though.

90s Jim lee designs are so overrated

Cyclops has super-geometry powers, so he would be able to just bounce his optic blasts off a reflective surface and punch the attacker in their head
