I'd give it a 7.5/10. A lot of the non-Drax humor falls flat, but you can't tell me you didn't have an 'OHSHIT' moment when Kurt dropped the bombshell.

I will say that Nebula's turn was forced and didn't seem like a natural character progression.

The fact that they didn't make her 'The Pirate Queen' during the mutiny sequence made me slow clap, because that would have been the easy, stupid way out.

It's a legitimately enjoyable movie and, as a filthy casual, I'd recommend it.

The problem with Nebula is her face turn really should take place in the final fight with Thanos where she turns good and helps the GotG defeat him, while probably dieing in the process. Unfortuantly the Thanos fight is going to be the big send off for all the other MCU characters so there won't be any room for her to have her spotlight. I thought it was easily one of the best Marvel movies to date. It always seems that cosmic marvel movies work way way better than earth bound. I think it has to do with the fact that no one really knows/cares about cosmic Marvel aside from a few.

I loved Drax and Mantis. The scene with them on the planet got me a bit misty. As a family man the movie pulled on my heart strings quite a bit with it's themes. Peter meeting and being disappointed by his dad despite really wanting to like him reminds of many kids I've worked with and I find it touching. Gamora and Nebula also touched me quite a bit.

I hated Baby Groot for the most part, but the scene where he is dejectedly walking to Rocket after being abused was particularly poignant.

It didn't disappoint and I'll be waiting to snag it on Blu Ray.

Also tons of waifu bait in the movie. Ayesha and Mantis being my favorite.

Krogarr appearing was the only thing that made me kind of discounted/angry. How in the fuck does this guy now magic? He was taught by Strange? I don't know. I thought it was a cool nod to comic fans, but it just seemed out of place in the MCU.

I pretty much agree with this. The family themes and emotional stuff really got me good, but a loooot of the humour didn't do anything for me, but it wasn't offensive. The baby groot stuff at the start was meh.

I enjoyed it a lot.

I'm not going to pretend I have high standards for capeshit movies, but GotG2 was a lot of fun with solid character arcs and a couple of good emotional moments. At times it felt a bit less coherent than GotG1, but the story and characters were definitely better on all counts.

Thought the touching moments were well executed.

Humor was very hit or miss, and kind of the largest blemish on this movie considering the worst jokes were the ones that wouldn't fucking end. Anything with baby Groot started getting exhausting to watch at some point. This wasn't beating a dead horse, it was raping it. I knew that cringe was coming though from the advertisements, so I can't blame anyone but myself for that torment.

Story wise it was ok, and while the Ego thing was interesting, it was poorly executed. Had to basically explain what Ego wanted to the friends I went with, and even I was running with assumptions. He never said in the movie, just that he was going to destroy everything, because "that's his purpose", and I guess that's what gods do, or whatever. Just seemed really weak, like he was the antagonist because the movie needed one. I really think this franchise needs to re-connect itself to everything else marvel so things can feel like they have weight and purpose again.

The movie was at its best when it was just doing serious character stuff. Drax and Mantis. Yondu and Rocket. Yondu and Peter. Yondu's sidekick guy was great and underrated.

- That romantic moment with Gamora

See, all telling and not showing for the character arcs was what held this movie back but scenes like Yondu saving Peter and Peter TRYING SO HARD to save Yondu are great for showing-not-telling

Jesus that Yondu one got me good. I thought it was going to be mroe hamfisted at the end since I knew Yondu died but I was taken a bit aback by that quick flashback of him

People keep saying this but I can't think of a single instance where the telling didn't go hand in hand with showing.

The main one was when Yondu and Rocket come out of lightspeed and Rocket says he wants to save PEter to prove he's better than him and Yondu chews him out.

They did some showing but it was the most straightforward character building dialogue in the movie.

Some people say Gamora and Nebula's conversation but that's ACTUALLY how siblings talk to each other: you fight for years and finally just spit it out after a fist fight.

How do you call out Rocket's issues and similarity to Yondu without Yondu confronting him though? It's apparent in how the characters act, so it is shown, but for the sake of the arc of the characters (and the general audience) don't they still need to talk about it? I mean it's kind of the lynchpin of their little arc, each helping the other realize what kind of men they are and how much Quill means to them.

I'm not saying it was done poorly but or acted poorly but it did go against the meme tenet of "Show don't tell"

The confrontation wasn't the issue, it was how bare Yondu's monologue was and how direct it was.

The rest of the film's dialogue was really well done in my book and even Yondu's confrontation was well done too, it just was much more straightforward and barebones in terms of laying out EXACTLY what the relationship between them was.

I liked it, for what it's worth.
