Have them respect the Crystals Gems and the efforts they have made to protect humanity through the years, but still be wary of them becuase they have their own interests at heart and disagree with the Gems on their methods (particularly trying to hide Xenotech and bringing a young boy with them instead of letting him grow up normally). Make them more pragmatic about eliminating Gem threats and capable of doing so, so that Steven's efforts to befriend everyone comes across more so as a beneficent gesture rather than a plea for mercy made by a weaker force that has no hope of conventional victory.

Have the development of human culture referenced as being a product of direct gem intervention. Have Steven go to school so he actually has a connection to humans a quarter of the day and gems the other quarter, saving the rest for sleeping.

Have humans actually KNOW who the Crystal Gems are.

Keep the 'tracking a monster/exploring a gem ruin' episode filler to space between arc and Townie shit so we have some more variety. Connie and Steven have good dynamic in these episodes and it was used to similar success with Peridot and the roadrunner gem. Exploring the moon base was cool too.

I agree with this to an extent as I do hate the people for overhyping the hell out of okish lore. But at the same time the lore is one of the only things that gives the show an identity. That's the same with any show, really. Sure all these shows having 'much deep lore' isn't a differing factor between them but at least the concepts in the background keep people watching.

Go back to the first season and continue to develop the corrupted gem monsters as the main plot thread. From there you can eventually get to the significance of the gem invasion and homeworld.

Cut out a lot of the focus on the gems, especially Lapis and Peridot. Their inclusion bogged down the series a lot. Keep things tightly focused on Steven, his development as a character, and his growing heroism.
