She jobbed because fusion throws her off and freaks her out because of what happened with Lapis and because of her lack of self worth and loneliness. Her losing is what showed us the cracks in her character that eventually burst out in her final scene.

Basically it's what makes her interesting. I'm not sure why "jobbing" is such a bad thing. It fit the story and her character and revealed things about her. Considering any future arc for her would obviously be about finding a place and not just living for the fight, which she's always had to do because she had no choice. All of this falls nicely in line with that.

That's what I've been saying. Peridot completely changes around Lapis because Zuke was trying to force her ship. All of her foot in mouth, blunt, socially inept tendencies go out the window. Not only that, she overreacts to Lapis' emotions. This isn't in character at all, even if you take into account her learning empathy, and it's something she literally only does for Lapis. Because of Zuke.

It was pretty clear in the show too. Considering a theme seems to be that Gems actually aren't as happy pigeonholed into roles as they are, it makes sense. When everything you're supposed to be is fighting, of course it fucks you up when someone you're meant to be fighting for gets killed. They're showing the consequences of her creation.
