>America #3 has only been storytime'd maybe a couple of times
I'm surprised, did /co/ get burnt out over storytiming the first two issues?
>>
>>92418191
not as shocking as the previous two, or maybe we are desensitized.
>>
>>92418191
>amateur art mistake
What's that exactly?
inb4 >the whole thing
>>
>>92418191
I guess it would make sense that superheros would have safe words since they seem to fight one another a lot for training.

Aside from that, I don't read comics I don't think I'll enjoy and I don't get mad they exist either. Why would I want to do either of those things?
>>
>>92418191
Personally at this point I've given up on Marvel. I can't even really make fun of them any more. I'm waiting for them to die so something better can take the company's place,

I don't really understand why the first issues were storytimed so much anyway. It's just a shitty comic. Why was it considered noteworthy?

I can't comprehend these new memes.

Her butt shouldn't be cut off by the panel like that. If you're gonna include her whole figure, do it since there's no point in cutting off such a small portion. A lot of artists that have been around for decades discourage doing this since it disrupts the composition of the panel.

Also what is she standing on? Storm appears to still be kneeling but she's at a flat angle so it makes it look like America is just slightly raising her feet for no reason.

But then again I think this is the same artist that does Hellcat, no surprise it looks amateur.

Because it somehow found a way to combine every single thing wrong with Marvel's comics, in both art and writing.

Pic very related
>>
>>92418191
why would you storytime something relatively new more than once

Holy shit, the artist drew a woman with distinguishable breasts, what is happening? Do things not suck as much any more?!

Don't forget Moon Girl's accidental supervillain speech
>>
>>92418191
>America's inner conflict boils down to "wahh I'm blaming my gf for a bd decision I made :((("

She seems like a really abusive partner
>>
>>92418577
Sometimes I do wonder about that

>>92418608
I guess it just doesn't make sense to me. We usually only do it with good comics like Multiversity or the DC Rebirth one-shot because the threads autosage due to discussion, but what is there to say about a generically shit comic?
>>
>>92418191
I think it's because this issue is less terrible than the others. It's still bad, but the issue feels like damage control compared to the other two.

I'm honestly wondering if the issue was ghost-written by someone else after seeing the damage Gabby Rivera did in such a short amount of time, but they wanted to keep her name on for the sweet diversity points.
>>
>>92418659
From that undetailed lazy background image it seems her mom is hot.

What the fuck happened...?
>>
>>92418763
She didn't spank her kid enough.
>>
>>92418659
That is legit not a bad villain speech.

Too bad that wasn't the intent.
>>

Those don't happen repeatedly with new throwaway issues. They are comics that are especially horrible.
>>
>>92420038
America is especially horrible
>>
>>92418608
That chick with the cat headphones seems hot at least.
>>
>>92420065
Honestly I don't see it. Just seems to be of the same ilk as Hellcat and such.

To each his own I guess.
>>
>>92418191
Isn't America racist?
>>
>>92420065
America isn't so much as painfully horrible as it is laughably horrible.
>>
>>92418738
That.... makes an eerie amount of sense. The writing really does feel subtly different.
>>
I read the first issue for prodigy and what they did to him was atrocious.
>>
>>92420152
Hellcat, at the very least, has a somewhat comprehensible and straightforward narrative. America would be a great surrealist piece if the nonsensical narrative was intentional.

also the art is egregiously bad for the entire thing rather than just one page that gets reposted over and over
>>
>>92418191
To be entirely honest with you guys, hjose first 3 panels were kinda badass.
>>
>>92420267
it doesn't really understand what a safeword is supposed to be
>>
>>92420200
>The writing really does feel subtly different
Until Rivera's self-insert appears out of nowhere to save the day again (oh, and Prodigy is there too).
>>
>>92420267
I too find flat empty backgrounds badass
>>
>>92418608
"America's diverse group of brown fans with tumblr hair ARE THE ACTUAL VILLAINS" seems like a weird take to have for the first arc of a super hero.
>>
>>92420200
>>92420342
Maybe the new writer still had to follow Gabby's general outline, but was allowed to fill in the blanks.

Like in the original version, America doesn't have to confront her weaknesses, and she doesn't look back and try to take Peggy's advice into account. She instead beats up the entire X-Men team, before meditating and getting everything right.
>>
>>92420421
In #3 it turns out they did that to get their help and her girlfriend is ok. They literally wrote a "dindu nuffin wrong" scenario.
>>
Anyone know the sales of 3?
>>
>>92420421
don't worry, they didn't do anything bad and become buddies in #3
>>
>>92420481
are they trying to actually saboutage the book? This paints her fans as villains and then casts that out after making them look like complete turbo assholes
>>
>>92420421
Because they weren't, they were trying to get America's attention so she could help them against the PURE WHITE ENERGY creature from the first issue. Fuck, even her girlfriend, who was crying for help in the last issue, was completely okay with what they did.
>>
>>92420525
it's more like Rivera doesn't know how to construct a narrative and her artists and editors aren't saying anything
>>
>>92420527
again, that doesnt make sense

all it does is portray her fans as shit persons with sjw hair that would manipulate her to do their bidding and then try to handwave it away

if anything it makes them even worst people, this isnt a save from the shitshow, this book is getting worse.
>>

I mean, Gwenpool got told when Deadpool held her at knifepoint, and she became nicer after that.

The solution seems to be obvious: just hold Moon Girl at knife point. If she's so smart, they could see if she knows how to perform an emergency tracheotomy on herself.

But considering the writers, she probably would just perform the surgery and snark at them the whole time.
>>
>>92420485
It only came out last week, we have to wait a few weeks for sales information for May yet.

My LCS roughly got:
#1 - 12 copies
#2 - 8 copies (3 of these were free)
#3 - 5 copies

He said he's likely dropping it to 2 copies for #4, only the Marvelfag completionists are getting it.

I think the major issue (aside from the self insert) is that the book has a great premise for character developement but it flips the script on what's supposed to be interesting adventures and what's supposed to be mundane character developement as we follow her life.

Her college is this wacky esoteric bubble of weird scientist learning about the multiverse, her adventures are punching hitler and saving her girlfriend. I get what she's doing but she's bad at establishing America as a person and can only go from conversation to conversation spouting how great the character is rather than give her a moment to say things for herself.

I say get her in the real world so she can actually have stories about the hippy gender politics shit with characters that at least feel like people and not just magical liberal arts students. Than I realize that's just squirrel girl and say fuck it good luck. The art isn't bad, not great but not bad
>>
>>92418191
>did /co/ get burnt out over storytiming the first two issues?

One or two got deleted because somebody started posting aborted fetuses and cp in an attempt to block it.

>>92418525
On one level, yes, it's just a shitty comic. There are easily worse ones you could buy at your local LCS. On the other, it's above and beyond the worst comic from the big two in recent memory, an instant draft pick for the storytime of pain, and most importantly, is the degree and the number of different directions it fails. It's not JUST a shitty story with terrible art. It's also paced like a porn gif on dialup, It cranks the idiotic politics to another dimension, it invents innovative ways of fucking up the dialogue, and it brings new horizons to marysuedom with TWO DIFFERENT blatant author self inserts, in the first two issues.

And that's not even counting the hilarity of when actual, living in Latin America hispanics bitched at her in Spanish, and she was unable to keep up.

The total package is beyond just bad and well into infamy. I think it contends with Marville, and clearly out Troubles Trouble.

>>92418577

No. Latinx is not THE gender neutral form. It's the latest in a series of attempts from politicaly minded Americans to do so. It's not used by anywhere in Latin America. Most would not recognize it.

Even in America, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who used it, outside of a portion of some college campuses. Gender neutral spanish gets fucking retarded fucking quickly.

>She needs anguish so her girlfriend should break up with her
>But fucked it up and had America break up with girlfriend for stupid reasons

>And I'll make America go to school. Let's make a university named after a brown person.

Absurdist comic about taking gender politics too far. In a dystopian future, people don't fuck each other but certain things, and there are groups of people that screw the same thing. Protagonist is in the group that has relations with dogs. He's putting down a plantfucker riot when he meets this blonde who turns out to be from the group that has telepathic sex with rocks. The blonde turns out to be a dude and some stuff happens that kills the protag, so the rockfucker reincarnates him into a gemstone and they have kinky mindfucks every day the end.

It's where Humphries got his "dogfucker" moniker from, since he wrote it. It's really not that bad. Just weird.

I really don't see how. Nuyorican is a distinct culture itself. While you're obviously going to get some cultural crossover with other groups due to a shared language and close geographical proximity due to the urban environment of NYC, that's true of pretty much any group in an large, urban environment. Unless Gabby was spending her youth travelling through Central and South America in deep cultural immersion it's reflective of Gabby covering for the fact that she's freely taking from various Latino/Hispanic groups and throwing it together.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea,
the problem is that it should have been brought up in the first issue instead of the third.
At this point it just feels like an asspull.

In Spanish, most of them do have to specify if they're referring to a male or a female (for instance, in English you simply say "fat", in Spanish you gotta say "gordo" if it's a male, and "gorda" if it's a female), which makes the x thing retarded because you'd have to use it all the fucking time and would end up making everything unintelligible.
And besides that, it's just something you can do on writing. There's no way to pronounce "latinx", so it's even more stupid and pointless.

I really hate panel 3 for a lot of reasons. There is no visual indication of a bright light, not even a shadow. It should really be 2 panels to show Moon Girl getting interrupted.

Also, what the fuck is that facial expression supposed to convey? She's not squinting.

It's like Mass Effect Andromeda. People just don't know how to draw a person anymore.

That sequence with the stick grenade is objectively terrible. The Germans (two silhouettes of dudes in a hole) are replaced by Americans (three dudes in a hole) in one frame with nothing to show that the world has rotated around her...because god knows backgrounds are a waste of time and 180 degree scene flips containing all the same elements are easily parseable

Not really, no. It's a reference to Fifth Element, but it's not actually referencing anything. It's a random inside joke from the movie, it makes no sense here.

Sad part is, male power fantasies are usually more interesting. See Torque's power-fantasy in Harbinger. It was supposed to be lame, and it's miles above this.

>I don't quite agree on that, it was explicitly and obviously made with satirical intent and the storytelling and the character are actually SOLID in their fucked-up context.

The relatively solid construction actually makes it even better for the storytime of pain credentials. It's the greatest dogfucking comic book ever created, far and away. Random fetish comics don't get posted in the storytime of pain. It's the James Joyce of dogfucking.
>>
>>92435535
yes, but storytimes of pain should be limited to "Actually Bad Books" and\or "Books that might even be good by themselves were them not based on characters\setting that they fail completely"

One might not like OLIR, but it's technically a good book that doesn't shit on pre-existent characters or settings

Plenty of other issues too.

Any sort of plan that for longer than 4 years either
-gets fucked up by the opposition should they win
-gets rushed to hell because the current party isn't sure if they'll win the next election and want to finish it asap
-scrapped completely

So you get this situation where some issues just aren't dealt with at all because it takes too long to fix them and the government looks schizophrenic or corrupt because they don't want to deal with anything that makes them look bad when they can't finish on time.
