Plus, their time together has been fairly linear and uninterrupted. The crew says Hungry Larry/Spider with a Top Hat was placed to air whenever in the season (has to air around Halloween, no matter which episodes come before it), and so is the only episode to air "out of order."

So more likely Star arrived August 2014 when school began, Season 1 ended in late October, Hungry Larry etc. happened sometime in the early S2 episodes (and Girls' Day Out too, so that Star would know Janna), Gift of the Card would be at least February 2015 (at least 6 months since Star arrived on Earth, and that's assuming the card expires in a very short time), and then Starcrushed is somewhere from April-June 2015, depending on when their high school ends the year since that varies.

There's absolutely no way to say Season 1 somehow took place in summer when almost every S1 Ludo episode is obviously on a school day. It's less than one year on Earth (freshman school year) that gets thrown off by Hungry Larry, which was out of order.

It's also worth noting that the book has errors in this regard too, with the Love Sentence concert having to take place in 2016 going by the date provided when that can't be true.

Gonna chime in-I think a lot of valid points are being brought up, and there's obviously a lot of unknowns that may or may not be cleared up. Here's my 2 cents for a timeline of sorts regarding the feelings between the two.

In S1, Marco develops some small unconscious degree of feelings for Star. She's attractive, the coolest girl he knows, etc. But they're not conscious and he still has the pedestal for Jackie. BMB rolls around and Marco is a bit jealous of Tom and Star going (ESPECIALLY when he sees her in the dress), but the ending of that episode causes Marco to think that Star is basically saying "I only see you as a friend, that's all I really want right now" when in reality she's only saying "I don't need you to be my hero and save me." Regardless, any romantic feelings for Star Marco had were likely quashed/gone by this point, and after this episode we see Marco's thing for Jackie come into more play.

Star likely found Marco cute and funny but may have only developed a small crush on him by the time of S2. I say this for 2 reasons: 1, even though a diary is a private affair, Star didn't dip down when Marco was flipping through the part about Star's thoughts on Moon. It was specifically when Marco got to the chapter "My thoughts on Marco" that Star dipped down. Given that Star has only dipped down when Marco is about to die or when she's trying to save Glossaryck, her dipping down there means whatever Marco was about to read was very important (more than the other contents of the diary). It's likely Star wrote "wow he's cute/I have a small crush on him" but her feelings for him at this point were likely not too deep and she's still goo-goo over Oskar.

Here's the kicker: I think at this point, Star's very small crush on Marco didn't actually go away. Part 1 done, part 2 coming.

I think the show does a good job of showing how Star and Marco suck at dealing with emotions. They suppress them and lie about them. This plays into a lot of things.

One thing to note-remember when the guidance counselor asks Star if she has a crush on Marco? She goes "we're roommates and best friends" but she never actually says "no."

I think Star thought her crush on Marco went away by early/pre-BBtBC S2-when she has the emergency friend meeting in Starcrushed, she does say she finds Marco cute and that she used to have a little crush on him and that she got over it. I don't think Star is actually lying here. I think she's giving this truth but using it to deny the fact that her crush only grew larger as time passed (which is what everyone the group seems to know except Starfan).

Star isn't really consciously aware of her crush in Sleepover either. At this point, her feelings for Marco are growing, but Star genuinely thinks she wants Marco to get with Jackie because that's what best friends do, take care of and help each other. Also note Star's reactions to Oskar at this point are much less intense than S1, and her connection with Marco is only growing. In Sleepover, Star gets busted because her brain thinks she likes Oskar but her heart is starting to fall in love with Marco. And that whole spiel about "our brains and hearts disagree and we honestly don't know which is right/truthful/whatever" ties into that: Star isn't CONSCIOUSLY aware she is falling in love with Marco, she still thinks she loves Oskar. It's not a lie because her brain genuinely believes it, but her heart doesn't and that's what the cube picks up.
