How come 3d movies always try to be realistic and the same mold of family friendly Pixar/DreamWorks knockoffs? I understand why 2d movies are basically dead, but with how many outright free 3d things are out there, why don't more people make independent 3d movies that break the mold a little?

Undyne, go shove your fishtits somewhere else
Plus you would think the success of stuff like RWBY, wether good or not, would lead to more people trying to ape it and do 3d action shows online.

Thematically, sure, but visually, even though it was the point, it still just looked like any other 3d kids movie.

You mean Undyne?
I think that's the model from the "If Undertale was Realistic" series.
>>92411875
a md5 search indicates that the artist is "uwotinfokm8" if that's what you're asking
>>92413625
I'm sorry, I should have phrased that differently.
I knew the character but was looking for the origin of the 3D model and the pics that OP posted.
Thanks for your help, anon, I'll check that!

If you mean visually, it's largely because rigging faces that can emote at a professional level is hard as shit. A lot of "independent" works mess up the mouth in one way or another, but manage to largely downplay it to the point where it isn't noticeable (such as intentionally only using the limited expressions that look right with the model). If you try that shit in any higher-budget production, it sticks out a lot more.
So most animators stick to facial layouts that are known to animate well.
