And despite it all, the moment Aku was pissed at him he killed with without even giving him a chance to explain himself.
That really settled the moment that reminded us what an awful evil bastard Aku really is.

IIRC the only beings that were actually able to stave Aku off, even if they couldn't kill him, were those elemental entities in that one episode, and presumably only because of magic or some shit. The Guardian was an excellent warrior, but at the end of the day he was still just that: a warrior. No magic, just stupidly good with any and all weapons as well as martial arts.

Keep in mind that the elementals are powered by the gods (whose energy was originally used to vanquish cosmic Aku at the beggining of time) and that by season 1 Aku was still refered to as a "Wizard" instead of a cosmic evil. Jack is able to free Ashi with the help of the Scotsman's celtic magic, though she's mortally wounded in the process. Using her AKUstic powers she tears open a portal in time. Aku attempts to destroy it but the Scotsman sacrifices his ghost to stop him. Jack kills Aku while he's distracted, says goodbye to Ashi, then jumps through.

ALLLL of it only amounts to going back in time about 20 minutes. Not years, not hours, just 20 minutes in the past. Everything he sacrificed was worthless.

Basically he drains the life force of people, animals and nature itself for 2,000 years so he can go back in time to save his family and also all of the killing he's done will be reversed by doing so...ends up the relic only allows him to go back 20 mintes...he could harvest wakfu for 20 millenniums and entire worlds, but it will never be enough to go back in time to save his family...that and then the guilt from ruining so many lives and destroying so many things in nature that will never be replaced hits him as well and thus is a tragic character of best intentions, thorough planning and bargaining of the ends justify the means etc.

It felt pointless. Besides, he worked so well in Episode 1 because the rest of the episode was exceptionally bleak. He balanced out all of the dark imagery of the episode with light-hearted fun at the end.

The other episodes aren't dark or bleak like that and have an optimistic tone, so it'd be better if the shift back to the bleaker tone came with the previously established bleak villain.
