Final MCU design looks more like a slug girl than an actual Mantis, the Concept art had her looking more Mantis like.

If Gunn wanted to avoid green skin he should have gone for an Orchid Mantis skin color or at least one that was interesting than light flesh skin tone, Mantises have different and interesting color variations.

Comic Mantis had that name because she did kung fu and would do the Preying Mantis stance, her dress shoulder sleeves (or whatever you call it) was also designed to mimic raptorial legs, there were Mantis elements to her.

MCU is just the antennae and she looks more like a slug.

Gunn's approach to these characters is making them physically similar to their comic counterparts (bar Quill) while reinventing their backstories and personalities.
