It's annoying that the comic, cartoon, and video game writers (heck even the Disney ride) keep repeating the shit from the first movie: breakouts, macguffin, daddy issues ( that GotG 2 resolved already lol ) dance off, etc...And now that the second movie came out Gunn pretty much did the opposite of that, he even mentioned in an interview that he avoids repeating certain things It's kind of funny how in the second movie he destroys the Milano while Duggan just gave them that ship in the comics

I will say in Duggan's defense that he made the first arc intentionally similar to the movies but said that he was going to move into new Territory as the plot advanced. I mean he's going to deal with the Raptors and spin an interesting plot out of why Groot is small (and he specifically said while his design looked like baby Groot he was just small, not a baby). That alone is charting into new territory plus the guy knows his cosmic stuff. I don't know but I kind of suspect editorial meddling especially since Duggan

I liked the stuff that Duggan said in his r/marvel AMA, especially the following

To be fair, the deaths of Coulson and Quicksilver are both pretty meaningful in the Avengers movies. Coulson was one of the major threads connecting the characters as they built up to Avengers and his death led to a more believable "okay time to cut the bullshit and start working together" moment. Then Quicksilver dying was a nice conclusion to both his and Hawkeye's arcs, and will hopefully play a big part in Wanda's story in the future (I found it very odd that he wasn't even mentioned in Civil War).
