I liked the setting and wouldn't mind seeing more stories set in it, even if they didn't involve any of the characters from the first film, it's a big city. Kubo's a gorgeous film and technically amazing. Laika should be celebrated every day for not only keeping stop motion alive but doing it leaps and bounds above everyone.

As a story, though, Kubo falters. Badly paced and thinly written. It's honestly an issue with all of their movies. Coraline squeaks by thanks to its basic structure coming from Gaiman. Paranorman's got the most interest character dynamics, but it still never quite gets to that emotional core. The less said about The Boxtrolls, the better.

tl;dr Laika needs a script that's worthy of their visuals.
