If 100% of the enjoyment purely came from views, likes, and reblogs, then go do something where you'll get that instead. Go upload Steven Universe clips on your YouTube page and you'll rack up the followers in the thousands over night.

If that sounds like a horrible deal to you and you'd much rather do the web comic than whore yourself out to easy ways to get followers, then congrats, you truly do care about telling a story even if no one will listen. If not, then quit before you waste any more time doing something you don't actually like.

You're in a highly over saturated market at this point where every person and their mother is making a web comic and posting it on their Tumblr. It's nigh impossible to get people to give a shit about it if you have no followers to begin with. This is why people often draw something that panders (fanart, waifus, porn or porn tease, furries) first then switch over to original content after they get enough people to watch them.

Typically, having around 1000 followers is a decent time to start uploading a comic. The drop-off of your fans will be immense, but at least 30% will stick around which is better than zero, which you have now.

Now, looking back after these years, I could say - my comic was a shit. It had mediocre art and terrible writing. I'm much better artist now, maybe one day I'll try again.

But if you're doing portfolio shit, try to remain versatile. I assume since you draw a webcomic that you're doing something related to illustration, so try different mediums and styles as well if you haven't already. No one's gonna hire a guy who just does a webcomic

I did that too but it was just another of many different things I've made in different mediums. Everything helps your portfolio and skill.
