PUNISHER STORYTIME
All year long I'll be storytiming Punisher stories, with at least 1 per week. Most of the focus will be on pre-Ennis comics, but with probably a few comics from the Ennis era and possibly some from the post-Ennis era.
Last week we read a "Storytime of Pain" of sorts of the notorious Jigsaw Puzzle arc. This week we're right back to quality material with the next 4 issues of Mike Baron's run.

>>92180064
>Among Madmen
One of the, if not THE, major "Baron-ism" is including random (and sometimes extremely obscure or bizarre) books or references to books in his comics. He does this in nearly everything he's ever written, with characters either shown reading books or mentioning the names of books or sometimes books being shown on a bookshelf or just lying around.
>>92178477
Wait, so one of them got away?
>>92180097
Why not turn him over to the police?
>>92178254
"Don't be a jerk, be a Goombah!"
- Nick Fury
>>92180126

I'm not sure if this is funny or just a groaner lol.
>>92177745
I wonder why he's so prominently reading a IRL paper like the NY Post instead of something like the Daily Bugle?
>>92181309
It's a type of cigarillo.
>>92180126
>letters page complaining about the ending of Jigsaw Puzzle and saying it ruined the arc
Yeah, as was expected. This is pretty much exactly how /co/ reacted when it was storytimed last week.
>>92180195
Nice cover.
>>92180223
Nice art.
>>92180535
Well drawn guns.
>>92180535
That is fucking beautiful.
>>92180909
That REALLY looks like it says "FUCKER".
>>92180975
>Mike Baron actually APOLOGIZING for the ending of Jigsaw Puzzle
Yeah, you can tell this went over poorly. They must have been getting A LOT of complaints about it in letters from readers.
>>92180975
>THE PUNISHER - AMERICA'S MOST DANGEROUS COMIC BOOK!
I love how they used to make an effort to make comics COOL. You NEVER see that anymore.
>>92180939
I love how in the end the faggot was ultimately wrong. No attempt to make anyone sympathetic or "try to make a point". Just a story about trouble crossing The Punisher.
>>92188312
lol
>>92180975
Wait, so was the ending of Jigsaw Puzzle Baron's idea or editorial's? This seems like they're trying to cover their asses. It seems like something that editorial wouldn't allow him to do without them approving of it first since it was a fairly huge thing to introduce supernatural elements on that level to The Punisher.
I read Essential Punisher collection #4 recently and it opens with these issues. Good stuff for most of the book, and they wisely end it right before the Punisher's worst arc (#60-62).
Has there ever been a colour TPB reprint of the Mike Baron run?
>>92193631
>worst arc (#60-62)
Even the issues leading up to that were suspect in quality.
>Has there ever been a colour TPB reprint of the Mike Baron run?
I'm not sure if ANY of the Baron run has been collected in color. Only like a couple arcs of the Dixon run and two or three arcs of the Potts run and the original miniseries by Grant ever got collected from that era (80s/90s).
>>92179286
>>92180126
>>92180975
Man, they are really giving them grief over Jigsaw Puzzle.
>>92177745
bring it OP
bumping for others
>all single-issue stories
this is what comics need more of. decompression needs to die.
>>92195785
All of the issues between #41-52, excluding only a 2-parter of #47-48, are single-issue stories. I think that might have been the longest stretch of Punisher comics with that many single-issue stories ever.
>>92177883
>Kensico Pumping Station
I love it when they use real NYC (or in this case Westchester) locations in the comics.
>>92177910
And real NYC Mayors.
Dinkins didn't show up in comics nearly as much as Mayor Koch did. (Probably because Koch was practically a living comic book character.)
I've only ever seen DeBlasio even mentioned in Marvel Comics twice, and never his face. They're just using a generic "mayor" in X-Men Gold for instance.
>>92178576
>AR-15
>not the latest hardware
Then what is? The US military is still using M-16s two decades later.
>>92179209
The Punisher should just bring a crying kid along to pop up and do that every time he accused someone of a crime. It works wonders.
>>92180329
>offering a black power activist a mayonnaise sandwich
Never let it be said that the Punisher doesn't have a sense of humor.
>>92180975
Holy shit, I remember reading the cab driver serial killer issue when I was a kid. It was so good, and the reveal was incredible.
Being a cabbie is still one of the most dangerous jobs in the city.
Thanks for posting these, OP! I've been enjoying your threads.
