The show clearly gave a fuck about female characters. I feel that the writers' room just didn't know how to handle any of them. Almost all the veteran writers had earned their stripes on shows that were primarily male-driven. The neophyte writers had to deal with the general inexperience with any sort of characters. And when they do start bringing on more female writers/boarders they often had completely different priorities and concerns than the existing writers' room.

It was more of an unfortunate clusterfuck than the usual benign neglect or intentional avoidance we're more accustomed to.

Gravity Falls was almost perfect.
Season 1 had flaws though. Too much focus on Dipper X Wendy which makes it more infuriating when Dipper X Pacifica is ignored because kids should "focus on pokemon" and shit

Season 2 was a MAJOR step up, kicking Wendip out the door for good until it came back Lots more mystery, characters getting more development, and the reveal of Stan's twin.
but the second half of Season 2 felt rushed. It's as if Hirsch crammed ideas for Season 3 at the last minute because he decided he was tired of working on the show.
I enjoyed the finale, but in retrospect it has several issues.

Again, wrong. Alex & Dana both drew requests together (each doing half of a drawing most times) and they both answered questions for 3 different events, one for PP, one for ACLU, and one for NRDC. All told they raised collectively over 60k for various charities. Alex also sang requests for charity with Kristen Schaal & Jason Ritter, and he planned and created the events with Dana. They promoted it in both their twitters and both did original drawings. I know because I watched all 3 live streams and donated each time.

Keep season 1 as is, maybe tone down Dipper/Wendy a bit.

Season 2 should have focused on character development and the town lore some more. Pacifica could get more development. Giffany could have been redeemed and helped Soos find the password to the laptop, even after it was destroyed. Which leads to the Blind Eye. Maybe fleshed out the Blind Eye society and made that the mid season finale? Maybe they could've been reoccurring villains too. Then Mcgucket could have led them to a mystery involving Curdoroys and Northwests with Bill fucking with Dipper along the way. Perfect way to tie everything together to form a solid narrative. Then the season ends with all of the characters being involved in Stan's crazy predicament with the portal and the government agents.

The rift, aliens, and Bill Cipher should have been saved for a third season. After Stanford is introduced, the rift goes off after a couple of episodes and Weirdmageddon gets it's own season. The aliens could be elaborated on, and Bill's backstory and reason for doing this could be added.

It's that easy. It could've been only 60 episodes too. I could've done this job better than any writer in that studio could have.
