So double Masters of the Universe storytime.

Will be covered the final chapters of the standalone tales with protagonists Randor's children.

The 1st story is taking place shortly after the events of the last issue storytimed in Skeletor's Origing thread. Skeletor after revolted against Hordak, he returned on Eternia. With the Mystic Wall destroyed, he invaded the Light Hemisphere, and he tried to deal with his brother Randor once and for all, while he was looking for the Sword of Power. In the meantime Skeletor's nephew and former student, Adam is now 18 years old, and he will have to make a choice that he will seal his fate and the fate of his world. This will lead to a war between uncle and nephew that its first part will last 7 long years and it will be end with the events of the MOTU ongoing...

While the war between He-Man and Skeletor, Grayskull and Snake Mountain's forces was raging on Eternia for 7 years, on Etheria Adora, Randor's and Marlena's daughter, who was kidnapped and raised by her uncle Skeletor and Shadow Weaver in the name of Hordak, she took Skeletor's place as Horde's Force Captain, after Skelly turned against Hordak and escaped on Eternia. Hordak ordered Shadow Weaver to erase from Adora's memory Skeletor the person she considered a father, she gave her the name Despara to hide her true identity, and with enchantments and brainwashing make her believe that Hordak was her real father. Despara was used by Hordak to oppress the Etherian resistance, and prepare her to go against her family, her people on Eternia.

Masters of the Universe after the 2002 animated series has been turned to a great franchise. After they abbandoned much of the 80's cartoon's cheesyness (the 80's MOTU comics is the exception, because they weren't so cheesy), MOTU turned to a Lord of the Rings meet Warlords of Mars, meet Conan, meet Star Wars. An explosive combination.

"I am the conqueror of dimensions".

This is a line that comes directly from the 82's first MOTU comics mini series. Skeletor often was called the conqueror of worlds and dimensions. And in this moment from 1982 was established that MOTU was a Multiverse. A concept that was brought again multiple times in the modern comics, from the Eternity War to the He-Man/Thundercats crossover.

I always remember how the She-Ra/Despara stuff made a lot of people REEEEEEEEE because of this page with her having short hair and not looking Princess like.

But really it makes sense for Adora to look like this while she's with Hordak and not all pretty and princess and it makes sense for her to have done horrible things.

Even when I was a kid the way they played it that she didn't know how Hordak oppressed the people of Etheria it wasn't that believable, but the show wanted Adora to have her hands clean.

Anyway the thing I didn't really get later on in this comic what the heck was all that thing with Skeletor being her dad? I guess he was lying but it was pretty convoluted and I found it unnecessary. Skeletor being the one who delivered her to Hordak was enough to connect them

The Filmation version was very simplistic. Basically for 5-6 years old.
This version here is more complicated, and the relationships between the characters are too. Personally i liked that Keldor/Skeletor was kind of a father figure to both Adam and Adora. It's a great twist, and somehow explains why Skeletor fought sometimes alongside He-Man and She-Ra, and also why both the twins considered an alliance between them. Because Skeletor even if he cares only for his own quest for power, he is still family to them. As for the Horde for me this is howl it should look. A ruthless empire. That's how Hordak was introduced in the first MOTU mini comics, as the "ruthless leader of the Horde". From the 2002 animated series and in the modern comics Hordak finally lives up to his title. Not the clown he was in the cartoon.

Yeah Eternity War was pretty cool, sucks that He-Man kind of stopped there and I heard the Thundercats crossover was pretty bad.

IIRC they had Adora being raised by Skeletor and Shadow Weaver but once Skeletor bailed on Hordak (time travel shenanigans and him seeing his future were Hordak kills him so he runs off) Hordak messed with her memory and made it so she thought she was Hordak's daughter.

I guess it makes Skeletor like a father figure to her and Adam and yeah he ultimately utilizes that and her feelings for her mother to persuade her into joining up with him (and to healing him too) before he ultimately tricks her. I think He-man tells her not to trust Skeletor but Adora is a person who seeks redemption for what she did and Skeletor makes this whole show about changing and lays out his motivations for what he did (and I feel when he told her that he was being sincere) but yeah he is ultimately a bastard who is willing to sacrifice anyone for power.

I kind of feel not enough people gave this comic a chance, and yeah it was because it wasn't exactly how their nostalgia goggles wanted them to be.

Actually He-Man/Thunndercats was hilariously awesome.

It's been writen by the same team of writers that did the story for the Eternity War, but it's based more to the 80's versions of the characters. For this reason the tone is more lighthearted read, and it's really fun, even if it's still serious when it comes to the battles. Especially Skeletor and Mumm-Ra's interactions are pure gold.

An important element is that the MOTU characters turned to their classic looks. It was a major complaint in the Eternity War, that they didn't look like their vintage counterparts. The highly entertaining story and the classic 80's looks turned He-Man/Thundercats to a success in terms of sales. Its sales were almost double of those of the Eternity War and surpassed even those of the JL/MOTU crossover, becoming the best seller of the MOTU related comics, so far.

And the friendship that was created between Adam and Lion-O was handled very well, and it felt natural not forced. Loving both MOTU and Thundercats, this crossover was the dream alliance of the 80's generation. I really enjoy it. Fun but metal at the same time. Easily one of the best crossovers of the past 5 years. I plan to post it, after the Eternity War, if you like to have a look. It was hinted at the end that will may get a sequel. Probably with She-Ra joining to a big 80's crossover.
